While in South Africa I also spent time in Johannesburg and Pretoria, but both cities pale in comparison to Cape Town. Cape Town is a picturesque city nestled between the mountains and the sea. It's a *bit* pricey to get there but once you are there, the exchange rate is in favor of the US Dollar so you get a lot of bang for your buck. It's a fairly cosmopolitan city filled with friendly citizens, there's great shopping, plenty of restaurants that serve fresh seafood and tasty local dishes, plus you are within a short drive of the winelands, safaris, and the Cape of Good Hope. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and honestly did not want to return back to the States!

(Report Problem)We had a fantastic time here -- the weather is perfect in January and there is so much to do and see. We stayed in Tamboerskloof, which was a great location -- close to the city center and to Table Mountain, but still nice and quiet. Be sure to go down Chapman Peak Drive on the way to Simon's Town to see the penguins! Also, if you only go to one museum in the city, make it the District Six Museum -- it gives you a good look at the insanity of the apartheid regime. We were in CT for 5 days out of our 3 week South Africa trip and we definitely could have stayed longer.

(Report Problem)In many ways Capetown made me feel like I was in my hometown of San Francisco CA. The water, the views, the multicultural experiences. People were nice and helpful. Weather was great in their winter (September). Little bit of rain but otherwise very nice. Never felt in uncomfortable like I felt in Johansburg or Pretoria. Only drawback was I didn't spend enough time there and it is a very long flight from the US West Coast. We rented an apartment called Africa Ming Apartments. Beautiful apartment. You can find it on the web.
