Just do it

five stars

A great city. Lived there for a year and really got to know the place well. Highliy recommend it for a holiday, has the mix of city amenities with beach life with stunning natural beauty. There are of course the downsides, esp the poverty and social deprivation that can make certain areas of the city centre pretty uncomfortable for tourists, but overall it is a wonderful place to visit. Nice hotels, value for money, good food and wine, stunning scenery, good infrastructure, proximity to the Garden Route, similar timezone to the UK ... the list goes on. Simple, just make it a place to go before you die!!!

Great Vacation Except Inflated Pricing

three stars

The whole 6 weeks we where there, we felt "ripped off" by the inflated prices, shoddy service and lackluster business services, everybody cries that they need foreign investment but nobody wants to do business as they throw up all kinds of excuses why. South Africa needs to get its pricing sorted out in accommodation/car rental/restaurants/ poor service in banks/real estate agents/business community/food service/and access to internet/ as one example if u go to a wine estate and buy a local bottle of wine which is sold for the same as US$40-00 when in the USA you can get the same vintage and estate for US$ 20-00 and upon asking the sales person how come this is so, we get a shoulder shrug, damn I could re-import it from the USA to SA and it would still be cheaper than buying it at the source in this case the estate that makes it, House prices are drastically over inflated also. After visiting SA for the last 12 years this time around was too much. As a footnote SAA now flies with their new Airbus a 21-hour flight from the East Coast USA (Atlanta) instead of the 14 hours with the old Boeings, Is that an improvement in service for the customer?? Granted the Airbus is 22% more fuel efficient but has smaller fuel tanks so it needs to stop a few times, Isle de Sol and all flights to JHB first with no direct to Cape Town... aah getting there is half the fun they say and now its half your vacation too .

I love SA!

four stars

I went to Fishoak last year and had a blast! Fishhoaek is south of Cape Town. I found a nice appartment for rent that was dirt cheep but very nice. I was supprised how far my dollar went. The people there were all friendly but you do have to be very cautious. I heard of several car jackings while I was there. If you are naturally street smart, then you should have no problem. It helped that I have friends that live there. If you know where to go and where to avoid you'll be ahead of the game.

Best city on earth

five stars

This is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. One for the views and also the climate and the people are very nice. Also not to mention the physical beauty of South Africans in general. There is so much to see in Cape Town you will find it hard to see it all in a week, there is also no lack of nightlife or entertainment for those who like to party with everyone. The nature lovers will also find a home here among the indiginous plant and animal life that is found throughout the cape region. This city with all it's suburbs should be on every traveler's list whose worth his salt as one who travels the globe. With its wide array of things to do places and people to see it is a must for those seeking something out of the ordinary no matter where your from.

Cape Town - The only city to be in

five stars

Cape Town is one of the friendliest cities in SA. The people are great and the atmosphere is brilliant. There is always something going even though it is known as the laid back city. This is what gives it its character! Sun in summer - but rain in winter - but still soo much to do and see and so many things to keep you going! A definite must and a wonderful place to be!

Heaven On Earth

five stars

There is no place in the world like Cape Town. I spent my honey moon there a year ago and i have never ending sweet memories of that place to cherish. Cape town has down to earth, very friendly and extremely helpful people. The table mountain, Signal Hill were like heaven on earth. The black clouds ALWAYS hanging on top of Table Mountain had remained a mystery for me and my husband. I some times wish to fly back to that place where there is so much to do and look around. South Africa is a perfect place for honey moon, it is romantic and have lots of activities to do.

Cape Town is the place

five stars

I have been to Joburg ,Durbs,Pretoria (Tswane),Kimberley,Kruger National Park,Windhoek,Port Elizabeth,East-London and most of the big towns in South africa. Cape Town for me is the exeption ,is it has the ambiance. It is lay-back,it has the most beautiful beaches. The people that I have met are wonderful. I overnight and spent a couple of days in Khayalitsha , Mufeleni, Nyanga and Gugelethu. I have been to Langa where I ate lovely cooked african meals. Tips to survive Cape Town.Blend in with the locals. Make contact prior arriving in Cape Town .Make sure you know where you are going, don't ask directions if you don't know the local langauges.Don't stick out like a sore thumb.
