It smells the food is likely to give poison you, the beggars will not let you go, the traffic is terrible, the people are rude and ignorant, never trust a taxi driver. Don't lose sight of your luggage in the airport, sit on it, be warned this is not a nice place. It really isn't a nice place.

(Report Problem)Loved this history. But, OMG, the locals are barking! They leave their houses/apartments at 9pm to drive round the streets till the early hours!!! If there was a thermal camera from space I think Cairo would be the easiest place on the planet to spot! And don't get me started on the amount of hassle you get just walking from your hotel to a restaurant... If you like being pestered 24/7 Egypt is the place. I would recommend Cairo as a stop off as part of a cruise. If you do stay overnight make sure you're in a 5* hotel. Sharm's great, but I wouldn't recommend drinking the water, eating any food, or staying too long.. If you do please rest assured you WILL get a stomach bug. Mine took 3 months before I was back to 'normal'. And I'm the sort of bloke that eats doner kebabs, sober!!!

(Report Problem)I have stayed at Mena House and the Sheraton El Gezirah. I am thrilled by the love of the Egyprian people for strangers. This is helped because I speak Arabic although I am a Candian caucasian. While there on one occasion I was the guest of the Minstry of Agriculture and the Government threw a party for us complete with with a plane flying along the Nile dragging a banner for us.

(Report Problem)Well,i have been to cairo for 2 weeks in december last year.I was so excited to go and see the pirmaids and all the history. To be fair Cairo has a tremendous history. But as soon as i have steped off the plane flying from London i have realised that beeing a tourist wont be that easy. First we had to pay £10 for the visa to get into the country-fair enough. Then a taxi driver overcharged us. As soon as we got to the hotel, service was poor and people did not speak english at all. Then arround the piramids u will get harassed by egyptian trying to sell u stuff even if u have a guide. Plus arround the Giza piramids is very dirty and to be honest i was expected to be a bit cleaner. The air becomes unbreathable during the day. And the worst part is that they dont have too many traffic lights and u have to be extremley carefull when u cross the road-honestly they will run u over. And also be carefull where u buying, what u buying -they will rip u off. If u wanna go to Luxur to see Valley of Kings do not rent a car- is arround 1000 dollars for 2 days. Overall my verdict...? Get a holiday package so avoid all this inconvinience. Enjoy

(Report Problem)i love Cairo because of the people and the special atmosphere of the bazaar. everyone is friendly are really honest and open. Cairo is also very exciting with all sorts of hidden parts, streets and shops, as well as the Coptic part of the town. The mosques and buildings have a special architecture - and let's not forget about the Nile! I had a very good time there - if you visit, be open minded and respect the culture, and don't forget to take off your shoes when entering a mosque, if you visit one..

(Report Problem)It has an amazing history and a unique beauty which it is sadly loosing each year, it's capital is just about the most air and water polluted city i have been to, it was almost impossible to breath sometimes. When you get out of the city and down the coast to places like Sharm the waters are truly amazing full of color along its sharp descending reef walls. The mountains around and the people who live in them have what i can only describe as a majestic feeling about them. Unfortunately these mountains are where they are placing all the waste from the resorts although some hoteliers are trying to stop this within an association they have formed. My suggestion to any one going would be to first find out something about this and stay at one of the hotels that are part of this association.

(Report Problem)I had always wanted to visit Cairo and the first time was like a dream - you can breathe in the culture when you step off the plane and my first impressions are lasting. The atmostphere and character of the city is addictive - whether you're interested in history or just want to relax it has it all. Recommended most highly!
