The Remotest but the BEST

five stars

Perth is one of the most wonderful places. In his book on Australia Bill Bryson praises Perth and Fremantle, I agree with his comments. Kings Park is wonderful, and a visit to the Perth Mint is a must. As is Rottnest Island, and don't forget to sample the wines on a cruise up the Swan River. With no pollution it is clear and bright.

Can't wait to go back

four stars

I spent 3 months visiting my daughter in a suberb of Perth. I really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of the city, much more relaxed than Sydney. The suberb of Subiaco was great for coffee shops and shopping, with a rail conection to the city only 10 mins away. Travel is so cheap. Freo is a great place which is at the mouth of the Swan River. Travel inland to Wave Rock and the Wineries on the river are very nice. The road south to Mandurah and Bunbury is awesome with plenty to see in both places. Travel north to see great beaches. The Tea Rooms at Cottesloe beach is very nice, the beach is also, but beware of the wind that gets up in the afternoons.

Great for: Beaches, History/Culture, Nightlife

I Liked It So Much I Moved To Perth!!!!

five stars

I fell in love with Perth after being on holiday and moved with my family here. In my opinion no other city of over a million people is so family friendly. The weather is fantastic, the city is unbelievably clean, the beaches are awesome, the swan river is majestic, rottnest island is blissfull, The swan valley is terrific. If you are looking for a family holiday Perth is the perfect place to slow down, kick back and enjoy the simple things in life.

Great for: Beaches, Scuba/Snorkeling, Hiking/Camping, History/Culture, Theatre/Music, Budget Travel, Family Holidays

Perth - A great city

three stars

Perth is an extroadinary place, it is absolutely miles from any other major Australian city. Perth is the capital of Western Australia, Australia's largest state. It took a 5 hour flight from Sydney to get here and be warned you pass throguh 2 time zones (i think!) Perth itself like all Australian cities is clean and the people are very friendly. Personally I found the city to be quiet and a little empty and devoid of atmosphere. But I have given a good rating to Perth because its easy for vistors to hire a car and travel to the beaches of Scarborugh, I found the atmosphere to be much better (more lively) and the beaches are awesome, although beware two things. Firstly the waves were huge and secondly the wind called the Freemantle doctor which gets up in the afternoon. Other activities in Perth include visiting Rotnest Island of the coast and at least a day spent in Fremantle (also called Freo) I am sure if you give Perth a visit you will enjoy it, but you will need to travel around to find the best bits... One last bit of advice, the road south to Margaret River is awesome and Margaret River is an incredible place, home to many wineries and eateries!

Great for: Beaches

The Perfect city!

five stars

What a beautiful city! Perth is by far the best thought out and designed city I’ve seen. It borders the beautiful Swan River that flows through Fremantle into the Indian Ocean. There is plenty of green space and parks along the river as development is set away from the waterfront allowing all to enjoy its beauty. You don’t have the heavy traffic and congestion that most cities suffer and it is by far one of the cleanest cities I’ve seen. There are plenty of activities for the active. There are superb bike paths, golf courses, great Perth zoo, and beautiful beaches within 20 min. car ride. A few minutes to the north there are the very nice Swan River wineries and a few hours to the South there is the amazing Margaret river region with its great wineries along with its caves and marvelous coastline. Fremantle is about 25 minutes away and is a very quaint seaside city to visit with lots of shops and cafes. From Fremantle you can catch a ferry over to Rottnest Island, which is definitely worth spending a day bike riding, sightseeing and snorkeling. Perth has it all without all the negative aspects most cities have. But if you looking for the fast pace and life of a big city, you won’t fine it here as Perth is more low keyed and is definitely not a 24 hour city.

The Closest Place to Paradise

five stars

My husband and I stayed with friends for one month in October 2004. They showed us all of Perth, and we spent a weekend in the Margaret River area. The birds, trees, climate, sky, shops, restaurants, and friendly people made our trip perfect. We visited the beaches, golfed, went to the outback to see the spring flowers, and most especially loved Kings Park. A beautiful place to be happy with its gardens, views, and restaurants. We especially liked walking along the Swan River every afternoon and having a glass of wine at Point Walter.
