Not a very tourist-oriented town - really more of a great city to live in - but there are enough options to make for an entertaining trip: space center, museums, Galleria (almost as big as the Mall of America), big sports in new stadiums, zoo, downtown and theater district (largest outside of New York), Kemah, Galveston's Strand and Moody Gardens. USA Today quote on our restaurant scene: "If New York is the gourmet dining capital of the USA, then Houston just might be the people's dining capital." We eat out more often and at a lower cost than any other major city in the nation. Don't miss Chuy's Tex-Mex, Lupe Tortilla's amazing beef fajitas, and Goode Co. BBQ. A car (ideally with a navigation system) is really the best way to get around (and parking is almost never a problem), but the Main St. light rail line covers several key areas if you get a hotel downtown, near Reliant Park, or in the Texas Medical Center (largest in the world). Spend a while here and you may want to move here: super-friendly people, very affordable living (esp. housing), all the amenities of a major city (4th largest in the country), globally diverse population from being the energy capital of the world (which leads to huge cuisine variety), best freeway network in the world (fast and easy to get around outside of rush hour), no zoning = very dynamic & evolving city, easy and cheap travel with Continetal and Southwest hubs, and a very optimistic, charitable, and entrepreneurial culture.
