I have been going to Austin, once a month, for the last 15 years. I usually stay 3 or 4 days. The folks in Austin are kind and helpful, but it's the laid back attitude that warms the heart, not even close to some of the high strung folks that are out there. It is now, and always been a hippie college town, but regardless there is so much to see and experience. Once you get the first visit, you'll definitely come back for more; matter of fact I'll be moving there in the next month or so. I have traveled a lot, but there is no place like Austin,......and let me not forget 6TH street,.....oh my, oh my. Just go, you'll have a great time
Great for: Scuba/Snorkeling, Hiking/Camping, History/Culture, Theatre/Music, Nightlife, Budget Travel, Family Holidays
Last Visit: December 2006

(Report Problem)Great City. There are thousands of things to do, from seeing UT football games, to listening to live music on 6th street, to kayaking on town lake. Downtown is clean, safe and fun! The resturants are outstanding, the quality of food is great and there is a diverse selection. There are numerous places to go to eat, from 6th street, to south congress street, to UT. I can't think of a single thing that is wrong with Austin. I absolutely love the place and spend every chance I have to visit.

(Report Problem)Austin is hands down one of the best cities in the US- great warm weather, gorgeous setting on the lake, diverse people, great food! Too much to do in Austin & the surrounding hill country to list- from the arts to sports to live music. An entire profile could be written about the mexican food alone! Full of beautiful & friendly people, Austin has a great vibe, and a ton of character. Am always looking for the job opportunity that will enable a permanent move there- what a town!

(Report Problem)I lived in Austin for 5 years and I loved it. The only reason I moved is to attend graduate school in another city. I hope that after my fiance and I get married that we can move back. We currently live in Houston and we hate it. Austin is a very beautiful city with plenty to do.

(Report Problem)Austin has some really good music, but that's about it. Everyone there thinks that it is the best city in the world and it really isn't. All that Austin has to offer can be done in about a day and a half. It is a college city and nothing else. There are no real attractions to speak of and the food/enterainment (besides music) isn't that good. If you're going to go to Texas, save your money and go to Houston or San Antonio, which are both great cities. If your 18 and don't care about anything but doing nothing all day than give it a try.

(Report Problem)Great city. Live in nyc now and wish I had never left. Great environment and allows arguably the most holistic lifestyle of anywhere i've been.

(Report Problem)Austin is a great place to live or visit. It has a very nice weather, plenty of sunshine and places to enjoy it outdoor. Lake Travis is a great place to go. Lake Travis' view is great and there are many wonderful spots where you can go. Right at the hearth of the city we have Zilker Park with many things to do. If you enjoy the nature, this is the place to be. From a botanical garden to the Barton Spring Pool, there are many other activities like running around the Town Lake trail or visit the Greenbelt trail with its creek and falls. For those who love music, Austin is your place too. I am almost sure that you will find a band signing the kind of music you like in a bar or restaurant in Downtown. Austin is not called the Capital of Live music for no reason. Austin has many historical attractions (after all it is the capital of Texas). From the Capitol to the Governor's manssion, you can find many historical landmarks. Additionally, the University of Texas offers a history of itself, as well as the Texas History Musseum, located accross UT at MLK Blvd. The last reason to visit Austin is to see a great mixture of nationalities and races in one place, which can be attributed to been home of one of the top Universities in the US. For year the largest University of the United States, the University of Texas at Austin educates more Doctors than any other University in the United States.
