Having grown up in Philly, I must say that after having spend a lot of time in other cities, Philly is merely a stop over between New York and DC. That said, there are some great restaurants in the city (Le Bec Fin, Geno's/Pat's/Jim's), great nightlife on Delaware Ave (if you like the club scene), and cool bars and music places around South Street and in the Manyunk area. Compared to the rest of the US, Philly is expensive. It is dirty, public transportation isn't so great (subway is not nearly as extensive as it should be), and Philly can be dangerous. Some things to check out: Independence Hall, South Street, Art Museum (with Rocky Statue), and the Philadelphia Zoo. Other than that: There's really not a whole lot to do...except late night shennanigans. In South Street: Check out the Pontiac Grill for some underground rock, In North Liberty: check out Ortliebs, Around Market Street: Check out Sugar Moms.
