Overall

three stars

I had never been to Columbus before, and I was excited to go for an interview. The city's nightlife and shopping had been hyped up by some my friends. For nightlife I started out in the very trendy and artsy Short North neighborhood. I was told it was downtown- but it really was a little longer north of downtown than I thought. There are many newer upscale establishments in this area and it was great. The atmoshpere reminds me something a little of Paris with all the marble table tops, wicker chairs, and art galleries. Everyone was pretty well-dressed and having a good time even though everything seems to be overpriced. I highly recomend it, but unfortunetly this district isn't very large (you don't want to travel too far off the main high street strip either) and it is really the only worthwhile place in Columbus. The Arena district is more casual than the Short North, but it is so gritty and dirty that it isn't even fun. Don't bother going. For daytime activities I went around the German Village district which was kind of interesting, but it only took two seconds to see everything. There were some neat homes and it might be a cool place to live, but definately a boring place to visit. I went all the way out to Easton which had some nice stores and restaurants, but I couldn't figure out why it was all the way out in the middle of nowhere. I couldn't decide either if I liked the whole recreated town atmoshpere. It seemed kind of like some strage, phoney Disney experiance to me. I thought Ohio State would have some interesting places, but I was shocked at how ugly and delapidated the campus and neighborhood was. I wanted to go to the art museum, but I asked a few people who told me not to bother.
