Cleveland is a great place to raise kids in an urban atmosphere with out the dangers, it is a safe city. The city itself is fun to work in and hang out in and the surrounding cities are a blast also, ranging from Mentor at Akron, one can find fun anywhere. Granted I myself have not lived anywhere else, besides Olean NY, but I call Cleveland home no matter where i am. And being in a different state makes me have an extreme amount of Ohio pride and I would not want to live anywhere else.

(Report Problem)I visit Cleveland at least twice a year, and think it’s a great place to visit, because it’s close and convenient to where I live. I would even recommend the city for people that live farther away even, who want big city fun for a lot less money. It is definately the coolest city in Ohio. There isn’t anything it doesn’t have, that other big cities have. The weather isn’t that great, but for entertainment it’s perfect. There are new restaurants and cool districts popping up all the time. It is a great place for visitors, but is not “touristy” like other places, which is a good thing. There are some really cool places to stay downtown too. Even the budget hotel chains make use of historic buildings, renovate them, and turn them into boutique like hotels. I don’t think safety is worse than most other cities. It’s maybe not a good idea to walk around at night by yourself, but I would say that about any city. There are some street people that may ask for money, but they never give you a hard time.

(Report Problem)There is just no other city like this in the Midwest. It is geographically between New York City and Chicago, and culturally it really is a combination of the two. Compared to other midwest cities, greater Cleveland is far more diverse, educated, cultured, and liberal. Its manufacturing base is strongly reflected in the residential population of Cleveland proper and has suffered some hard times. But this is highly contrasted with the multitudes of suburbs in Northeast Ohio that are filled with beautiful century mansions, many elite private schools, country clubs, and yacht clubs. There is indeed a lot of old money "East Coast" types. I'm not saying this is good or bad, but it certainly makes Cleveland a very different and interesting place compared to its Midwest neighbors.

(Report Problem)We visited Cleveland to visit some of the area attractions, and we had a great time! There are so many great things to do for not that much money. The city is very visitor friendly, and friendly in general. Its maybe the easiest city in the world to find your way around. There are no one-way streets, little traffic, signs and maps downtown to let you know where you are and what district you are in. The streets that run north-south are numbered. West of Ontario (the main street with city hall) are West numbered, and and East of Ontario are all East numbered streets. The streets that run east-west have names. Downtown is very clean, and there are great places to stay and walk to all the hotspots. We felt very safe downtown too. There are some run down areas outside of downtown but we were driving around these places, and there is no reason to be scared.

(Report Problem)I grew up in the suburban area, but lost touch with the city after high school. Whenever I come back in town I'm always impressed. The city is cleaner and seems safer to me than it ever has before. The EPA says you can actually fish now on the Cuyahoga river?! Its really amazing. All kinds of new places are downtown now, and a lot of young professionals are moving into new apartments (about half as much as other places, twice as big, and twice as many upgrades) right downtown in the Warehouse District. I love San Diego, but Cleveland is much less expensive, and becoming a lot cooler. I love Jacobs Field, the Rock Hall, and the Museum of Art. In Cleveland there isn't this widespread obsession with chain restaurants and places that is plaguing other cities. I also planning on not having a car, because I think the RTA Rapid lines are pretty decent, and the city is even putting some new lines in. I'm really looking foward to coming back and being a Clevelander!

(Report Problem)Cleveland should be on the itinerary every travel enthusiast at least one point in their life. Cleveland’s a blast with many different entertainment options, and cultural institutions. Besides amusement, however, Cleveland is actually a very prominent city in the U.S. Surprisingly its population only ranks the city at number 30 in the country. This is quite misleading though. If you factor the greater metropolitan region it makes Northeast Ohio the fifteenth largest metropolitan region in the country (approximately 2.9 million)! Another interesting point is that 43% of the U.S. population lives within 500 miles of the city. Even at ranking fifteenth in size, Cleveland is a Top 10 Fortune 500 city, as well as a Top 10 Legal Market city (many of the nation’s top law firms are located here). A Federal Reserve Bank Branch (one of twelve in the country) also makes Cleveland a critical financial center. The NASA Glenn Research Institute in Cleveland is one of thirteen NASA centers, and one of two of their research centers. The Cleveland Clinic is one of the country’s premier medical research and treatment centers (out of 6,000 medical centers the Clinic ranks fourth), and ranks the Clinic ranks first in certain specific areas of medicine. Some of the country’s top universities are in Cleveland. The most notable include Case Western Reserve, Oberlin College, John Carroll University, The Cleveland Institute of Art, and The Cleveland Institute of Music. A world trade center, major international airport, and a good deal of international business put the city on global level of activity. Three established major league professional sports teams is also a testament to the city’s big league status. Northeast Ohio has a very unique history in that it was once governed, and developed by the state of Connecticut! For a long time the region was referred to by its territorial name “The Western Reserve,” and there is still a distinct Western Reserve style to the region’s architecture. Home to the Rockefellers and other industrialists, Cleveland briefly claimed the more millionaires than anywhere else in the world. Cleveland firsts include the electric streetlight and streetcar, the modern golf ball, the Superman character, and the term “Rock ‘n’ Roll” by Alan Freed! Cleveland continues to be the leading center of Rock ‘n’ Roll (the greatest form of American music) today with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

(Report Problem)I went to Cleveland with a friend for an Alter Bridge concert. The day was great, Cleveland is a very nice city, but in the end I was robbed and left with the ineffective Cleveland police. Next time I'll head to Pittsburgh.

(Report Problem)Cleveland is really big on high culture. A visit to Cleveland should require you to experience some of it. Most of the institutions here have been around for well over a century and are very refined and respected in the national scene. Playhouse Square downtown is an excellent performing arts center. It features theater, dance, and opera in beautiful venues. University Circle is abundant with institutions. The Cleveland Museum of Art is a must. It features a fabulous, distinguished collection and is completely free of charge. The Botanical Gardens are beautiful, and is complete with a recently constructed glass house. The Cleveland Playhouse features decent performing arts, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The Cleveland Institute of Music and Cleveland Institute of Art sponsor many great events featuring the talent of their students. Oberlin College, about forty minutes West is also a very distinguished fine arts school. If you have to choose just one cultural thing to do, definitely see the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall. This orchestra is arguably the highest rated orchestra in the country, and the concert hall is just spectacular. Art galleries are prevalent throughout Cleveland, and you may want to invest in some pieces while you are here. Tremont and Little Italy are probably the top neighborhoods for galleries, and they also boast some of the best dining. In Ohio City there are a few, namely the reasonably priced Something Different Gallery, and innovative SPACES gallery on the Superior Viaduct. Downtown there is a collection of galleries at the ARTcade in the beautiful Colonial Marketplace on Euclid Avenue that is worth checking out.

(Report Problem)Everyone knows Cleveland is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and there is no better museum in the country for Rock music, and that is a fact. Besides the museum, you might want to plan your visit in conjunction with a show. Cleveland attracts a lot of top artists and bands, and you might be surprised who is playing while in town. The Gund, Tower City, and Nautica are the larger venues where you will find big names. But you might want to check out smaller venues that feature indie, or up-and-coming artists at the Beachland Ballroom, Agora, Odeon, Peabody's, Phantasy, or Grog Shop. The local scene is pretty good. If you are in town, try to find when and where the Shwartz brothers are playing. These guys had huge potential to make it big, stayed local, play guitar, and are down right entertaining. They will blow you away, honestly. They usually play at the rustic blue-collar bar Hoopples in the Flats. The best place for authentic blues is probably at another rustic hole-in-the-wall place called Parkview on W.58th on Wednesday nights. This place gets packed, and it’s well worth it. Fat Fish Blue on Prospect downtown is great restaurant where you can also listen to some decent blues. Also Downtown is the new House of Blues that plays all kinds of rock music. I was skeptical at first, but I've been pretty impressed. The place is really cool, reasonably priced, and attracts worthwhile bands. If you like classic rock and are coming in town, be sure to hang out at the Garage Bar on W.25th to listen to your favorite tracks. If you are into indie/electronic Capsule in Lakewood on Madison Ave plays some great music too. Cleveland truly is a Rock and Roll mecca.
