I'm not that big on zoos to begin with, but figured in a city as large and progressive as Amsterdam, some modern thought might have gone into the zoo, as well. My children and I were downright shocked at some of the cages in use. Two tigers were crowded into a tiny concrete-and-bars pen, one pacing back and forth incessantly. My children still don't like the memory of it all. Amsterdam is wonderful; but give the zoo a pass.

(Report Problem)Good day out - went back on our second visit to Amsterdam too. Takes longer than you think to go round, and gets quite tiring - it's massive! Most of the animals look well cared for. Lots of different indoor areas as well as lots to see outside - monkey house, reptile house, insect house, aquarium. Outside were the usual suspects - more monkeys, elephants, giraffes, big cats, etc, etc. The planetarium was ok, but we went to see Bert and Ernie and it was all in Dutch, so that was a bit of a waste of time.
