I love Thailand, been all over it. (My wife is from Nongbua Lumphu. :) But really, visit the outlying villages, and you will have a great time. The people are very kind, and the temples are all very enjoyable. Even the monks are cool folks. They're everywhere. You might visit Erewan Cave while you're there, it's nearby. It is a very important place to the Thai people there. And You have easy access to many beautiful parks also. Overall, a nice place to spend a few days, or a week, to get the feel of the farming communities. Nice thing about Thailand is this: airfare is CHEAP!!! Once you get there, you can go just about anywhere for $50. See Chiang Mai, and Mae Hong Son, visit the Kren (Long Neck) tribes. Everything is extremely inexpensive. Which makes the trip even more enjoyable. Go! It's a great place to visit. But try to spend some time there if you can. Travel around, it won't cost you too much.

(Report Problem)Easy to get to with three airlines, Nok, Air Asia and Thai. Inexpensive town but frankly nothing much of interst in the town itself. The countryside and surrounding areas are a differnet matter. Rural villages unchanged for ages, welcoming locals, silk weaving, farming, etc. Difficult to access the countryside so stay with someone who will show you the ropes and introduce you to the area. Gecko Villa is recommended and close to Ban Chiang archeologocal site...also worth a visit. Or use Udorn as a jump off place for Nong Khai then Laos via the Friendship Bridge.
