A place you can't miss

five stars

I have been here for almost a year so long, and I must say I love this city. If you decide to come, what I strongly recommend, you will be delighted with this welcoming, dynamic, shinny and living city. Prepare to enjoy!

We thought of settling in Valencia!

three stars

We visited Valencia in 1999. I still think of short but very good memories from this town. The town and beach are friendly for the ones looking for a peace of mind. It is also a live city, youngsters coming out the bars playing musics at 3 am.

The Friendliest City in the World

five stars

The best part of a visit to Valencia is being able to wander the city at night - late at night and to see the sheer enjoyment that the locals take as an essential to living. We've been 8 times now, tried about 15 different restarants and never had a bad meal or seen a surly waiter/ress. It is said that Valencianans realise they have the best of everything in Spain - weather, heritage, food and are determined to enjoy it to the full. Their idea of a good night out, is laughing, joking, eating and talking, with the odd drink (purely so they can talk some more). Officially the local language is Valenciana (a mixture of medieval french and Catalan) but everyone understands Castillian and will make time to listen to even the most rudimentary attempts to communicate. It is so pleasant to walk around the gardens or streets and to see almost everyone with a smile on their face. Although it can't compare to madrid or Barcelona in terms of size or historical architecture, it has the new modernistic science museum which is nearing completion and I swear that it only magic could be supporting the arch over it. It is easily the most beautiful building I have ever seen. 4 star hotels can be booked for as little as €32 a room - if you know which web sites to visit. Lastly, if you want to experience World War 1 in the trenchs, visit in the week before march 19th and experience the "Mascleta" - fireworks at 2.00pm in the city square - these are not fireworks, they're bombs!!

Lived there during degree - wonderful place!!

five stars

I love Valencia. I lived there for 9 months during my degree and loved it! I even wrote my dissertation about the future of Valencia as a tourism destination. It is an amazing city, and I am considering moving there permanently. When I was there in 2002/03 there were no cheap flights. It cost up to £200 to get there direct, but now with so many cheap flights direct to the city it is so much easier to get there. The city has everything: it is right on the beach, it is surrounded by countryside and mountains, has an amazing culture and history. It gets very hot in the summer though so beware!! It really does have something for everyone. March is fantastic with the great Las Fallas festival - unmissable!!

Valencia is Vain.

three stars

Went for a 10 day holiday in May this year. A very beautiful place, excellent food, loads of fun activities, weather was too hot for comfort. NO one speaks English, it took 20 minutes to make the barmaid understand that I wanted one pint of lager. The Immigration authorities are the most uncouth that I have come across in my travels, they were extremely rude and made it obvious that they dont like tourists. Similar attitude with the 4star hotel receptionist. Overall, a bitter disappointment with the Spanish hospitality. Valencia is a nice place, unfortunately the same cannot be said about the people of Valencia.

Love to go back

four stars

From knowing nothing of Valencia I found it an amazing place. Where the river once flowed is the most amazing walkway through the city. The gardens vary as you go and are well used, and it is odd to walk under bridges where once there was water. At the end of our walk we came to the new Arts and Science buildings. These are wonderful, I am not a great fan of modern buildings but these are very photogenic. Well worth a look. We stayed at the NH hotel and I can't tell you what luxury we got for a very modest amount of euros. The small restaurants all over the city are wonderful and good value too. Go there - you'll enjoy it I am sure.
