This is a wonderful part of Spain, clean beaches a stone's throw from the city centre, plenty of bars and cafe's, very few English speaking people, beautiful hotels. Weather can be a bit rainy but when its fine the climate is perfect. Learn a bit of Spanish and enjoy, you will like it here!!
Great for: Beaches, History/Culture, Nightlife

(Report Problem)i liked the place as it's not been invaded by the brits on the lash, and equity rich southerners. Loads of things to do, food is cheap and of good quality. You will need to learn abit of spanish to get the most out of the place though.

(Report Problem)At first sight, Santander appears to be a typical commercial port but a little expoloring reveals a very diverse and interesting town. There are 5 seperate beaches around the city that are clean and spacious with golden sand. The coastline is rugged and in someways similar to cornwall, England. There are Countless small bars and cafes to eat and drink in and some stay open most of the night in the city centre. It is great for people who like shopping as there are loads of narrow steets with hundreds of small shops. It is possible to stay in a hotel near the beach or in a hostel in the city centre, whichever suits. The people are friendly and it is usually a safe place even at night. Santander is more suited to people who want to experience real Spanish life and not the usual English breakfasts etc. A basic knowledge of Castellano is required as English is not understood anywhere. Brilliant! ! !
