San Sebastian is to gastronomy like La Meca for Islam. There is the biggest concentration of Michelin stars per habitant. Top quality restaurants that are just the top o a big pyramid. So, when planning your stance at San Sebastian, please, keep a couple of meals at good restaurants. However, restaurants are not the only way to eat good quality in the City. Also the tapas, here known as "pintxos", are very famous indeed. In fact, pintxos are not exactly as tapas (as you will recognize if you travel to other cities in Spain). Pintxos are different, more elaborated maybe, and the best of all is that they are displayed on the bars and you can take and eat them as you want!!! You'll just pay at the end telling the barman how many of them you ate. (Of course, honesty is a must, and locals appreciate it).
