I booked this 2 night trip for no reason in particular - I hadn't been abroad before and a friend had mentioned it to me so I thought...why not! Getting through customs at the Airport was very quick and we managed to get a taxi straight away which took us to the hotel in 10 minutes (although he did over charge by around 300sk). We stayed at City Hotel Bratislava which is a 10 minute drive from the city centre. The lobby, bar and restaurant were to a very high standard and all of the staff were very helpful. The rooms however were a massive dissapointment - they were musky, dusty, dated and the bathroom was dirty (the bath was full of grime and the toilet constantly smelt of urine). We did get the cheapest rooms available though and I know that other rooms are to a very high standard. Getting to the city is easy and once there it's easy to find your way around as it's so small. The arcitechture is amazing and well maintained. Cost wise - alcohol and food is extremely cheap (40p per pint / £1 per large meal). Everything else though is around the same price as in England which was dissapointing. We visited Aupark (a large shopping centre) for a few hours which wouldn't have been out of place in London. Beware of taxi drivers though as they can be no good. We tried to get to the zoo twice by taxi - the first time we were taken around the block and dropped off by a cemetery while the second try we were taken around 10 miles out of the city and dropped off with nothing but a 4 hour walk back. Overall though - I highly recommend visiting...a great experience!
