Amazingly refreshing!

four stars

I booked this 2 night trip for no reason in particular - I hadn't been abroad before and a friend had mentioned it to me so I thought...why not! Getting through customs at the Airport was very quick and we managed to get a taxi straight away which took us to the hotel in 10 minutes (although he did over charge by around 300sk). We stayed at City Hotel Bratislava which is a 10 minute drive from the city centre. The lobby, bar and restaurant were to a very high standard and all of the staff were very helpful. The rooms however were a massive dissapointment - they were musky, dusty, dated and the bathroom was dirty (the bath was full of grime and the toilet constantly smelt of urine). We did get the cheapest rooms available though and I know that other rooms are to a very high standard. Getting to the city is easy and once there it's easy to find your way around as it's so small. The arcitechture is amazing and well maintained. Cost wise - alcohol and food is extremely cheap (40p per pint / Ģ1 per large meal). Everything else though is around the same price as in England which was dissapointing. We visited Aupark (a large shopping centre) for a few hours which wouldn't have been out of place in London. Beware of taxi drivers though as they can be no good. We tried to get to the zoo twice by taxi - the first time we were taken around the block and dropped off by a cemetery while the second try we were taken around 10 miles out of the city and dropped off with nothing but a 4 hour walk back. Overall though - I highly recommend visiting...a great experience!

Waste Of Time, Waste Of Life

one star

I've been to dozens of cities in Europe, all thoroughly enjoyable and without complaint until I stumbled upon Bratislava. Never in my life have I experienced such rude, miserable, hostile, unfriendly people as what I did here. There's not many things to like about this place. Lacks culture, lacks class, lacks individuality. Yes there's a castle here (ugly one if that) but what ancient cities don't have one. Countless times we were scammed and overcharged by these people on a night out but don't even bother questioning them as the law of the fist is in full swing. It is quite easy to see why their economy is up the duff as their attitude to tourism stinks. Yes it's a cheap place for a holiday but there are far better cities in Eastern Europe to see i.e Krakow. In the waste of 3 days that I spent here I didn't see one smile on the face of a local. You'd be forgiven for thinking you had discovered a city in post war depression. If only someone would drop a bomb on Bratislava, the world would be a better place.

Bratislava is a hole!

one star

Do not bother going to Bratislava - it is waste of time. The people there are the rudest, unfriendliest people I have ever encountered. They rip-off tourists at any possible chance. The nightlife there is pathetic and there is nothing to do during the day. Avoid at all costs - go to Krakow in Poland! I have travelled extensivly throughout Eastern and Western Europe and this is the worst place I have EVER been to!

I am going back for sure

five stars

I spent a month last summer in Bratislava and I would say that it is the best out of country experience that I have had. The food is great and alot cheaper than in the larger countries of western Europe. If you go to Vienna or Prague, both of these cities are crowded and in Bratislava, there is so much to see and do! I would say that you have to experience this city in your lifetime!
