Recently spent a 6 day skiing holiday in Zakopane. Skiing was limited with a very basic lift system, but Poland offers a warm friendly welcome, and a different atmosphere from France or Austria, free of large tour operators. A refreshing change. The Tatra mountains are rugged and offer great hiking and walking. Zakopane itself is great fun, lots of nightlife, good sports facilities, and good value too. I would definatly go back again but in summer not winter. Accomadation can eaisly be booked online, and cheap flight operators like ryanair fly regulary to krakow. From there its about a 2 hour drive to Zakopane, best to hire a car to give yourself freedom to get around as public transport is basic. Definatly worth going but dont expect too much from the skiing.
Great for: Hiking/Camping, Nightlife, Budget Travel, Family Holidays
Last Visit: December 2006

(Report Problem)Very energetic city! Lots to do in summer and winter time. More down-to-earch city and loaded with that southern Polish charm. Beautiful buildings, delicious food and expansive views. Who could ask for more? Heaven on earth.
