This small picturesque town, located on an island amidst mountains, fjords and sounds, is probably best to visit in the summer: The midnight sun will be shining right into your eyes as you leave one of the many lively bars or clubs. Beautiful mountain hikes, fishing villages on other gems await both on the island itself, and on the mainland and outlying islands. A trip here in the winter would be excellent around Christmas and New Years when the city usually dons a fresh coat of white snow bathed in rich, deep hues of blue, colorful holiday lights, and (on New Years) tremendous fireworks in all the streets and on top of the mountain cable car. You might also try this town in early spring, when the sun has returned and skiing (cross country or alpine) is at its best.
