The hotel is old and needs some window cleaning and paint but other than that is was a nice place to stay. The staff was friendly the beach was clean and the food was good.

This was my second visit to Cancun. For this time, I stayed with my wife at Sheraton. We will not come back to this hotel. We reserved ocean front room with extra charge, but we are disappointed that the room did not have balcony and worse, window was unopen. Hotel had tiles on the room and hall way. It looked nice, but it was so noisy throughout the night by the reflecting sound of people walking in/out to their room. Worse by the very think wall, we needed to keep hearing a couple's noise from the neighboring rooms. It worth to spend additional $20-50/day to go the better rated hotels, especially in Cancun.

My wife and I just got back (visited 1st week of Aug '04). Simply put,
we'll be going back next year. The room was nice (tower, ocean view,
balcony, marble floor and tile in the bathroom). I counted at least 7 bars
and restaurants on the hotel property, each of which would allow you to
charge back to your hotel room, thus eliminating the need to carry money.
Happy hour 2-for-1 drink specials is nice, too. The beach was just
wonderful (sand does not get hot). The swim-up pool bar was pretty cool,
too.
The only negatives were the prices for the bar and restaurants,
and the fact that I didn't even know they had activities like mini-golf
or tennis/handball. Saw nothing about that in the in-room literature.
Otherwise, this would be a 5-star review.
For those previous
reviewers, there are TWO pools, one with an ocean view (between the tower
and the beach) and one without. The one without is where the kiddies hang
out. The one with is where *I* hang out. ;-)
La Isla (the mall
across the street) was nice. I suggest going twice ... once during the
day, and once during the night. Almost completely different experiences.
Here too, though, prices were a bit on the high side.
Finally, a big
thanks to the night-shift concierge for arranging to get a taxi driver to
pick up medicine at a 24-hour pharmacy for my wife. It was much
appreciated.

Just got back from Cancun a week ago. I stayed at the sheraton with my
friend. The service and location was excellent accross from a major shoping
center and in the middle of the cancun strip.
One thing i found most
disapointing was this resort did not have any jacuzies/hot tubs at the pool
area's and the pools where not that big for a resort of its size. The
main pool was nice but the view of the ocean was blocked by the
building.
Overall it was great for my value im a 19 year old college
student paid $750 for the week including airfair on American from New York.
We did have a garden view room though facing the main pool.
I would
recommend it to anyone but its definatly a 4 star and not a 5 because of a
few things it lacked

I went back in December 2000 and stayed at the Sheraton Cancun. My wife and
I stayed in the main hotel right in the middle facing the ocean. It was all
inclusive and the continental breakfast was phenomenal, especially if you
love eating like I do.I'm not too picky but my wife is and she liked
it.We're going back in June 10 through the 20th.It will be interesting
to see how much hotter it will be.We're staying at the same hotel. We
did want to try out the Gran Melia Cancun,my sister and law and husband
stayed there and what can they say.But if you go to Cancun you rarely stay
in the room.ITS CLEAN!!That's all I care.
Other than that,I
highly recomend that if this is your first time to Cancun,go to:
1st
XCARET (if you can two times,it's an all day tour, but it' worth
it!)
2nd xel-ha/Tulum
3rd Cotzumel
4th Chichenitza
5th
don't go to Isla Mujeres;it's a sham!IMO!
6th if you have 3
hours to burn GO on "Jungle Tour"
7th do the BAr Hopping Tour
and drink all that you want to drink but never can in your home
town.
8th There is a restaurant "El MExicano" :Looks nice but
your paying more for the show than the food.
9th Go to the mercado in
the City away from the hotel zone.
10th In front of the Sheraton Cancun
Hotel There is a beautiful shopping center.Very American but you need to
learn Spanish if you're shopping there.
If anyone can recommend
some other tour that I didn't mention, please let me know. TIA!

Went week after Easter April 2004. Overall we had a good time and I would
recommend the Sheraton. Here is the good and bad:
Good: my kids loved
the free mini golf - they would play the 9 holes twice a day every day. My
son also liked the big tennis/handball wall. Great location across the
street from big, nice La Isla mall where you can go across for all meals -
much cheaper than hotel food - highly recommend 'Come N Eat' for
Mexican food. Awesome Burritos, chimichangas, - great margaritas. La Isla
has an American Express to exchange your $$ to pesos - a McDonalds for
quick breakfast, Movies, shops, convenience store etc.
Don’t waste
precious vacation time on high pressure time share visit to Mayan
Palace-takes too long.
Buses run every 3 minutes stopping right in
front of hotel.
The negative: take or buy ear plugs for sleeping - it
does get loud - no carpeting to muffle sounds - tile floors in hallways and
rooms make it loud.
The beach is beautiful but rough. The hotels in the
north side of Cancun (Cancun is shaped like a number 7) are really calm.
This part facing the Caribbean ocean directly had the red flags for caution
most of the time.
For people who want more of the bar hopping action
from stumbling distance would also prefer the area around the bend of the 7
where they can walk to the action.
I highly recommend taking the bus
to the non-tourist area of Cancun in downtown for the open market 28. You
can get much better prices and its fun, safe. My daughter had her full head
braided (86 braids) for $10 !! That would have cost $50 at the hotel area.
Can buy Silver chains, etc from Taxco.
Try some Tamarindo pulp with salt
and chile.

Stayed here during spring break March 2004. Perfect location close to shopping and more important the night life. Next time would go for all inclusive, but if not each bar in the hotel has a different happy hour time 2-1 drinks so if your drinking in the hotel make sure you find wich one is having happy hour. My only complaint is the beers where not cold enough, but after three or four beers what difference does it make.

I`ve stayed in this hotel 2 years in a row and it is just one of the nicest, cleanest, prettiest hotels i`ve stayed in down there. The ocean side view of the beach from the pool is just amazing and the hammock garden is fabulous! They have a wonderful staff who really knows how to make you feel welcome! Would definitely stay there again!

I`m from New York and travel alot.My travel agent suggested this hotel,at a very good deal.I jumped at the price, not figuring that it would be this nice.Do stay in the Towers, the newer section, ocean view.My room was on the 7th floor.I was traveling with my son who is 20, he flipped , the view was worth the long trek from JFK.We threw on on suits and jumped in the water. The hotel is spotless, clean, lovely.Centrally located near everything you could possibly want.La Isla Mall directly across the street. The bus stops right in front of the Hotel, which is 6 pesos.Stay at the Sheraton Cancun, your`ll love it.But don`t skimp out $$$$ stay in the Towers.
