Just wonderful; modern amenities with pure English charm

five stars

I've been going to England for many years and always as a "spoiled American" disliked not having elevators or air-conditioning. This place is just incredible. The best of everything -- wonderful service -- and a great location for day trips to Scotland. I so impressed I can't imagine going anywhere else now.

First and last(ing) impression

four stars

Check-in (first impression) was a disaster. Young dead pan female. No smile, no welcome greeting. Just barked out questions, punched in data and shoved a key card at me. No offer of assistance with luggage either. Otherwise great hotel. Great food and rooms. Enjoyed my stay but lasting impression is sadly the reception, or complete lack of it, at this hotel.
