I disliked this hotel from the moment I walked into the door. The guy at the front desk seemed to be more concerned with a sporting event than getting me checked in and assigned a room. The rooms are the size of matchboxes, which is fine if all you intend to do in them is sleep. There was a very old radiator that served as the heating unit while I was there in late October of 2004. I hated the idea that this hotel had communal bathrooms. The idea of an entire floor using the same bathroom is one that makes me shiver with disgust. The fact that the floor was covered with water didn't help the situation either. Word to wise, spend the few extra bucks for the Holiday Inn. You will be glad you did. I would recommend this hotel only to someone such as a student that is visiting and simply needs a place to lay his head at night. I will never visit this hotel or advise any of my friends and family to do so. My friend that was with me resolved to advise his friends to stay away from this one.

There was nothing good about this place. It was smelly, nasty, and I hated it! Never stay there! They only cleaned once and we were there for 6 days!!!! Trust me, it's not worth it!

Don't ever make a reservation with this hotel. I booked an online reservation with cheaptickets (dot com), as a package deal with my flight. The morning I was supposed to leave, I thought I should call the hotel just to confirm my reservations and make sure everything went through ok- It was a good thing I did, becuase the man on the phone acted like he didn't know what I was talking about, said I had no reservation, and that I needed to call cheaptickets to call them with my confirmation number- I was still on the line when the agent from cheaptickets spoke to the same man, and the man at the desk proceeded to tell him that I was trying to cancel my reservation, which was an obvious lie, and fraud on thier part. Had I gone to that hotel, I would have been told that I still had no reservation, or that cheaptickets had cancelled it, and they probably would have told me if I wanted a room, I would have to pay more money. I also do no recommmend cheaptickets, because they stood behind this fraudulant hotel that they do business with, and I did not receive my money back. I am in the process of reporting them both to the Better Business Bureau.

I'm surprised there aren't codes regulating how terrible a hotel can be. I should sue them just for traumatizing me. The only thing positive about this "hotel" is that you have a private room on the upper west side. Any semblance to a hotel after that is non-existant. I've stayed in hostels nicer than this. I was actually stupid enough to not look at reviews when i booked a room in this hotel one night. Reservations mean nothing... you go to the desk and have to request the room again. OH! Even though you give them your cc# on the website, they don't actually take them. Cash only. What kind of business, especially a hotel, only accepts cash? That was only the start to the shadiness. We got on the elevator, which was old, rickety, and most of all DIRTY. The light in our first room didn't even turn on, so we had to head back down. The guy at the desk was the only one working there, so after helping several other customers, he headed up to "make sure we weren't lying about the light." We should have taken that opportunity to grab back our cash and steal the photocopy of my license, because the next room was no better. After fumbling around for a light switch, we realized this new light was only able to be turned on by the FISH-LINE hanging from it! The walls were an ugly blue that had clearly been painted over many, many times. The plastic picture frame on the wall was broken, and the lampshade on the night-stand was melted. The only other furniture in the room was the TV stand (the TV had a 10" screen) and a rickety bed. The sheets were so thin they looked like they had been spray painted on. There was no blanket. The pipes made a shrill sound all night. Showering was the best! We got to use these towels that I could swear are the same kind i use as foot-mats at home. There are only two bathrooms per floor of a dozen or more rooms, so waiting in line was also EXTREMELY pleasurable. By the time I got to use the shower, it was freezing cold. The shower door was broken, so only one side would slide, which made it difficult getting in and out. Even if you're planning on only using a room for sleep, don't plan on staying here. You can get hostels in mid-town for half the price. And with those, you might actually get some sleep.

Its so good to here that as many people also suffered at the hands of the west side inn. We were there for 7 whole nights! Dont belive the official website and if you haven't seen it yet have a look, as its good for a laugh. The West Side inn is possibly the worst, no THE worst place on earth. It is a flea pit with dirty sheets, dirty rooms and dirty bathrooms. We were promised a fridge, a promise the unintelligible owner had no problem in breaking. Justice was served we feel when one of our friends accidentally tripped over and formed a hole in the wall the size of the empire state building. The West side in is literally falling to pieces!

I stayed at West Side Inn the weekend of Sept. 3rd, 2004. I read the awful reviews online and called the hotel to ask "do you really have air conditioning and do your restrooms really get cleaned regularly, or is the hotel a gross disaster?" The man on the phone said "we are under new management and any issue that you read about online has been resolved". THAT WAS A LIE. My room had NO air conditioning...the bathroom was NOT cleaned 2 times a day like I was promised...a dirty ball of toilet paper on the floor by the waste basket stayed there all weekend long...the lobby smelled like perspiration because the man at the front desk apparently didn't wear deodorant....this hotel was NASTY. I went expecting the worst and was still shocked. Beware...they WILL lie to you to get your reservation.

Pay no attention to the hotel's very professional web site. What you'll see there bears almost no resemblence to reality. They promote it as a budget choice for business travelers, when in fact it compares unfavorably to most youth hostels. While conveniently located, it's dank, filthy, and not the kind of place most folks would want to spend even one night if given a choice. Please resist the urge to give it a try for one night and steer clear of this dump.

Words cannot describe how horrible that place is!. That place is a dump and I would not recommend it to anyone. My friend and I had to endure a night of hell in that hotel because we had no other place to stay that night. First of all, the room we were given was a far cry from what we saw on the internet. The room smelled terrible, the sheets were old and smelly, the light did 'not work properly and worst of all the bed was so old that the springs were sticking out! The bathroom was just a nightmare that we checked out before we could even brush our teeth! This hotel is a scam because you will be charged for one night if you cancel. The person behind the desk did n't think there was anything wrong with the place --he even said we were lucky to have a TV in our room!I could spend a day describing how horrible it was and people who stayed there looked creepy! We all agree hotels are expensive in New York but people do not deserve to be treated like this. It doesn't deserve a rating at all!!!Please people stay away from that place!

This is the worst place. I wish I looked for online reviews before spending this past weekend (June 2004) here. The hallways and rooms stink of urine. THe bathrooms and kitchens are horrible. The rooms are infested with cockroaches. We must have seen at least 40 cockroaches during our 2 night stay. Stay far away. I refused to spend more than 4 seconds in the bathroom the whole weekend. TERRIBLE. I agree with the first post. I wish I could give this place a below 1 rating.
