Okay - here's the scoop:
Pros:
Location - near the Museum of
Art, convention center, market st, etc...
VIBE - the place has a swanky
vibe that just doesn't stop. The design is ultra-modern with flairs of
sheer brilliance. The furniture and furnishings are extraordinary.
Everything down to the pillows on the couches have had special thought put
into how they would make the place groove.
Service - when you walk in
you are greeted by well dressed and groomed staff who are empowered to help
you in a broad range of requests. There is a concierge desk to help with
maps and suggestions on restaurants etc..
The room itself is a showcase.
Most things in it are so popular and WOW that they created a catalog so
that you could buy almost anything you see. The bed is sure to be one of
the most comfortable you have ever slept in.
Cons:
Parking. It
is tough to find on your own. And they gouge you like $40 for valet.

Walk into the W, and you might mistake it for a club. Even in the day, the
lobby area is dark. I walked right past the front desk without even knowing
it, because mainly, the front desk doesnt look like a front
desk.
Speedy check in and wow, I've got an amazing room. W is
tastefully furnished with very very modern furnishings. I had an OK view of
downtown SF and the room was slightly less than medium sized. They take
great pride in what they offer in their rooms, and the drinking water is
"VOSS" artesian water for us5d a pop. Expect bathrobes, and a
washroom stocked up with the most amazing face and body care products. The
TV was placed kinda high which started to give me a neck-ache. Other than
that, the super soft pillows made up for it.
Check out the W
shopping catalogue. You'll be amazed at what exclusive products they
sell.
Excellent customer service and if it wasnt so expensive, I
would totally consider staying there each time I
visited.
Conveniently located a black from Market street, a couple
of blocks from union square, right next to the SF Museum of Modern Art
(half price on Thursdays) and for some geeky entertainement try the sony
metreon down on mission. Lots of great good in the area definitely an
awesome location.

Continuing the great W Hotel tradition, the W San Francisco offers amazing rooms, heavenly beds, and a great staff. On top of that, their bar (I think it's called the XYZ) has the best martinis south of Market. It's a great part of town to crash in and you will not be disappointed with the room, the hotel, the staff, or the clientelle.

The W is a great place to stay in any city, but the San Francisco W has
wonderful staff, outstanding rooms, and many options.
The location is
perfect for the visitor that needs to meet friends out on the town, and
it's never difficult to catch a taxi out front. The W is close to
shopping, restaurants, and some excellent night spots.
If you are in
town to see the sites like the golden gate or the marin headlands, you will
have to take a taxi or catch the cable car to to north side of the
city.
I can't say enough positive things about the rooms at any W.
Beds are amazing, the decor is perfect, everything I needed was right
there.
W was top notch!

South of Market is probably my favorite place to hang out in S.F., so the W
is a great home base for me. Their own bar, XYZ is a fun place to grab a
couple martinis and start the night. There are also some great restaurants
and clubs near the W: 111 Minna, Cloud 9, etc. Very close to SFMOMA and
Union Square shopping.
The rooms are incredibly styly and hip, but
more importantly--they are comfortable. It's not like some luxury
hotels where you're afraid to touch anything, much less enjoy yourself.
At the W, I feel right at home (albeit, a much more stylish, well-decorated
version of home). The pillow-top beds are heavenly and the Aveda bath
products are a great touch. Great, trendy hotel for one of the coolest
cities around.

This hip hotel is starting to show it's age. But that said, the service is great, location fantastic, and the beds comfy.

This hotel is okay. But it seems like it tries too hard. The location is nice and central though.

Located in the heart of "South of Market", The W San Francisco stands out with the offbeat, yet sophisticated spirit of the city. It's totally cool and hip place to stay.

This hotel has a fabulous location, just off all of the great shopping in Union Square and easy access to most of the downtown attractions in San Francisco. It also has the requisites of a W-- chic lobby and bar, nice gym and pool, etc. The down side are the small rooms to go along with that requisite. All in all, a decent place, but not overly recommended.
