Customer Service is NON-EXISTENT. Manager and staff do not believe in making you feel at home. They are condescending and make you feel like answering a question is an inconvenience for them - especially the concierge. Hotel does not have central A/C or Heat, so every floor (we went to every floor) is stuffy with stale air and "odors". Rooms are dreary, dim, and hot. Window A/C units are old and have to be run all night to cool the room. STAY AWAY from the Wolcott. WE WILL!!

Likes : Spacious room (we stayed in a junior suite), very comfortable beds. Helpful and friendly staff. Nice muffins and coffee in the morning. Great location. Dislike : slow lift, noisy air-con.

I went in July; the best points were it was a few blocks of Penn Station; I walked with my luggage to the hotel. And withing short walk to the Empire State Building, where our 2-day Gray Line tour picked us up and dropped us off. Across the street half a block away was a post office where I shipped half my baggage home my last day, using a box picked off the curb in front of the many stores nearby, which set out tons of empty boxes every morning. The lobby was classic New York, and leaving at 7 and returning after 9, I didn't much care about the room. The bathroom was the dinky-est I ever saw. So what. I didn't come to New York to view a nice bathroom. I used the $70 a day I saved on the room to eat at the finest restaurants. Great for tourists who won't be spending hours in the room.

I stayed at the Wolcott in mid-October and the lack of heat was a major
disadvantage of our visit to NYC. After spending all day walking the
streets touristing it was disappointing to return to a cold hotel room.
Then taking a shower was an adventure, as the cold water would cut
out mid-way through, making bathing a scalding experience.
And the
elevator was OPPRESSIVE to say the least. Don't even consider the
Wolcott if you're claustrophobic. There are permanent residents that
like to poke the elevator buttons on their way to the bathroom so the lift
stops on floors for no reason. One night I was in the lobby and had the
pleasure of seeing the ambulance wheel one of the residents out on a
stretcher in a body bag. Apparently he had been living there for a long
time, but was living no longer.
The Wolcott is a value hotel to be
sure, but you'd be better off staying elsewhere.
I have two
things to say in favor about it, however. The cleaning ladies are really
nice, and the lobby is gorgeous.
