Good location but expensive (but London itself is expensive anyway)

We booked a London vacation through American Airlines and chose the Thistle
Marble Arch as our preferred hotel. I have to say we were not
disappointed. The rooms are large by normal standards, and air conditioned
- a must as we were visiting in July. I understand that air-conditioned
rooms are not standard in the London area. A continental
"english" breakfast was included in our rate, with the option to
upgrade to a full english breakfast any morning for a few more pounds. The
breakfast was fair - not a lot of choices, but the restaurant area was
clean and the waiters, waitresses and host were cheery and quick to respond
to any request. All of the employees from the clerk at the reception desk
and the concierge to the housekeepers and porters were "out of their
way" friendly to us. All inquiries were answered politely and
accurately. There is a coffee and sandwich shop, bar and several other
good restaurants to choose from, so leaving the hotel for meals is
optional. The location of this hotel was another plus. Granted, it is very
busy and not a cozy B & B hotel, but it is just blocks away from the Marble
Arch underground station, and the Marble Arch itself, which is a pick up
point for the double decker tour bus (recommended if you have never been to
London - it helps you get your bearings!) Lot's of shopping and other
things close by or easy to get to.
I would recommend this hotel for
those who want a central location with the comforts of nice hotel. You
won't be disappointed!
