Landmark hard to erase from my memory
I stayed two nights in the Landmark. I booked a suite directly with their
web site as I wanted early check in (7:00am), rather than book an extra
night.
I got a room on the 22nd floor, but had a disappointing view,
as tall buildings tower around it.
The suite was big (over 70 sq m),
and very 'designer', but it had some disadvantages; the marble
bathroom floor was lethal when wet. I slipped and almost broke a toe! The
hotel staff were very helpful, taking me to a local hospital, where an
x-ray established that the toe was not broken. Then the hotel had the nerve
to try to charge me for the limosine! I was furious. If I had been a real
'American' I would have sued them for endangering my life! This
left an unreasonably bad taste in my mouth, which colored my otherwise
positive view.
The 24-hour room service was efficient, and served up
a good range of food. This was important, as I was in sufficient pain that
walking was difficult. The hotel even opened the in-house Thai restaurant
out of hours for me!
The area is a bit 'seedy' with some
sex-industry outlets nearby, but after the toe-smashing incident, I
didn't get out much to make a more balanced assesment.
It is
near a Skytrain station, so it's very easy to get around town within
the limits of that service. There is plenty I like to do near Skytrain, so
I am very happy with that aspect of the hotels location.
The room
had a high-speed internet connection, so I was able to work efficiently
while room-bound.
I would consider returning, but prefer the
riverside location of the Shangri-La.
