Dont Bother!

one star

When we entered the reception area, it seemed very nice. But as soon as we got out of the lift on the floor, what a difference! scruffy paintwork, fusty smell. The room was very small, and the bathroom tiny with rusty pipes and a cracked sink. I certainly would not recommend this Hotel.! There is a safe you can use free of charge, but you are not allowed to take it away from the desk, so when you want to get something from your safe you are among everyone else who is checking in. no privacy at all! very strange.

I cant wait to be back

five stars

Myself and my best friend arrived in new york with a very quick taxi transfer costing a flat rate of $45. Our hotel was wonderful and gave us the most hospitality and comfort you could of wished for. We had a large twin room which was nicely decorated and brillant features to hand. We had a maid service each money of our stay which was lovely have. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. Brilliant diner attached onto the hotel for amazing breakfasts at low prices. The location of the hotel couldnt of been better, just a few blacks to walk and your right in the centre of times square a fantastic location. Just beware of taxi fares one thing we did regret was taking a cab to places whereas the four day of our trip out of a week we braved the subway which was a true delight at an unbelievable cost. People very welcomming and friendly- take a good map with you... alot different to the underground! Defiantly going back to the wellington hotel, infact cant wait!

Great for: Romance, Nightlife, Hip/Trendy Scene

Do Not Stay In This HOTEL

one star

The first room we were shown to was small/dirty/ faulty wiring , the hairdryer was hanging out of the wall, the down pipe in the bathroom was thick with rust carpets dirty etc, After waiting to complain with about a dozen others also wanting to be moved to better rooms were we offered three others before being offered the chance of a "Suite" at an extra 60 dollars a night. Manangemet very unhelpful, staff offerering little help extra for observation that as the Wellington is over a hundred years old what do you expect". It took fours months of emailing Thomsons to finally get a partial refund of the extra we had to pay for what we should had been offered in the first place. Parts of the hotel were freezing cold and other parts like a sauna . Definately not a place I would ever stay at again

At least you only sleep there!

one star

We booked in after having waited for what seemed like forever. There was no one to show us to our original room but we didn't mind as I always find exploring is good. When we arrived in our room we were gutted at how small and dingy it was. I decided that it didn't matter becaise we were only going to be in there to sleep and wouldn't spend much time there. However, I changed my mind when I saw a small rodent run up the curtain and into a hole. At reception we asked to see the manager who was very rude and had the attitude that it wasn't his problem. After about 40minutes they finally agreed to change our room. The second room was much bigger and lighter but very tatty and in need of a good clean. The location of the Wellington couldn't be better, we walked everywhere, but our stay was slightly tarnished by the hotel. The desk staff were helpful and polite but the I couldn't get other the managers lack of interest. Upon returning home we wrote a complaint letter that has never been acknowleged. For location I'd say it was great everytime but I would not advise anyone to stay here.

Unclean

one star

We stayed in this hotel from 3rd - 10th January 2005. On arrival we were given a room on the 9th floor. There was a layer of filth around the skirting boards, the bathroom light was yellow, and the sanitary was very old and grimy. The bed linen smelt of mothballs, the mattress was old and lumpy, and the pillows were stuffed with cut up foam. On opening the window to let in some air, the noise from the street was so loud you couldn’t sleep. There was an industrial fan on the building opposite running 24/7 and large delivery trucks for the deli. We were lead to believe by the pictures on the website we booked via hotelconxions.com that we would have a kitchenette but there wasn’t one. We complained to the uninterested and unhelpful reception staff who conceded to move us to the 21st floor. The room and linen appeared cleaner, although we soon found that the bath’s pop up waste was broken, and the plug supplied was too small for it. Not that you would want to stay in it long as we found roaches in the bathroom most nights. In this room there was no way to turn the heating off so it got stiflingly hot which caused my asthma to act up. Our friends read the reviews prior to booking in with hotelconxions.com and were upgraded to a suite. Although they had problems as they had no heating for two days. I would recommend that if you stay in this hotel you book a suite as they seem to be cleaner, in a recently decorated part of the hotel and of a reasonable size. The twins are very small old, dirty. As neither hotelconxions.com or the Wellington have answered my complaint it appears that they care little for customer satisfaction. I have stayed in better 2* hotels on the continent that this place. Book in at your own risk!

Wellington 2002

three stars

I stayed in this hotel in 2002 for 3 days. I was asked by my visiting boyfriend to check it out before he booked a room there. I didn't know what to expect, since I had never heard of it. I hung around the lobby for 30 min. The registration counter was quite busy and the bellboys didn't even look in my direction. I would have liked to have seen a room before booking, but I gave up. The lobby was nice so I told my boyfriend to go ahead and book it. It was small, but clean and nicely decorated. In short it was okay.

The Waldorf Astoria

five stars

Dear MTV,
Why is the dove the symbol for peace? I think it should be the pillow. It has way more feathers, and doesn't have that dangerous beak.
Thanks,
Karen

What a dump!

one star

Terrible hotel. Dirty, tiny rooms. Mine came with a double bed. Not Queen or even Full; a double bed. At 6 foot 2, my feet were hanging off the end. ALL the lighting is fluorescent: Terrible. peeling wallpaper and loose plaster in the bathroom. They make you wait around for a bellman to show you your room (scam) and the staff is a surly and pass-the-buck as can be. Never again.

Wellington Hotal

five stars

June 16, 2003, I checked out of a hotel which I had booked sight unseen and set out for midtown to find a place to spend my week. I was about to give up when I noticed the Wellington sign a block away. I walked into the beautiful, clean loby and inquired about room availability and costs. I was served promptly and courteously. I was even permitted to view the room before I signed in.
Service and great and my stay was very nice. The convenient location allowed me to get to theaters, museums, subway and bus lines very easily. The desk staff is extremely knowledgable and helpful.
I recommend this hotel to everyone.
