for the price you should not have to pay for the fitness center and you should not have holes left over from renovation in the floors or wall paper stripping away in the halls.

I am in full agreement with guest ID 4. The lobby is beautiful, the restaurants are wonderful as well as the service. However, our room was much smaller than expected. I'm afraid this grand old hotel is in need of a long overdue facelift. Checking in with our rental car was a real nightmare, more so than anywhere else I have been. The Waldorf by name alone will always be the premier hotel of NYC as far as I am concerned. I was with TWA for a number of years and feel I have a good basis of comparison both to European and US hotels.

We travel a lot, gold members of Hilton and had some very high expectations of this hotel. However, we were disappointed. Room was not the room they originally gave us and told us it would be ready at 3:00. We had a late lunch and returned at 3:00p. It took 25 minutes at the counter waiting for them to get our room. They did not give us the room they originally reserved for us. Instead we were placed in a room where we could hear the band playing one floor up from us. It was small and bed extremely uncomfortable. Putting a plushy fake top on a cheap mattress didn't fool me. Maid service was marginal at best. I had a dirty coffee cup and pot sit for 2 days before I finally just set it out the front door. We like to conserve the towels. We would hang them on the rack and they would end up being replaced every day despite the card that Waldorf set out about their conserving water policy. The Oscar Restaurant downstairs was horrible. Breakfast buffet, messy and food preparation was marginal at best. The lunch we had was okay. The waiters were not the sharpest..my breakfast order did not come back correctly. They did however, not charge me for my coffee or toast that they brought to me. I was extremely disappointed.

What a beautiful building! Great location to get to all the sites. Wonderful lobby and chandeliers... Love the history of the building. We had a great time and would stay there again.

This hotel is filled with class. The lobby is elegant and beautifully decorated, with nice shops and restaurants adjoining. Service was above average, room service arrived in about 20 minutes each time I ordered. The only setback of this luxurious hotel was the size of the room. I am not sure if my room was different from others, but it was pretty cramped. For teh price of the room, it's not worth it.

First things first. The Waldorf is not cheap. Like $45 for parking, not
cheap. But there is probably no other place (besides the Plaza) that is
synonymous with luxury digs in NYC. To me, New York is one of those cities
that's worth the splurge...it's just more fun when you go all out.
Between taxis, dinner, entertainment, and drinks...a trip to Manhattan is
about blowing it out.
So, what does all that money buy you? A
beautifully, tastefully decorated room, for starters. World-class service:
knowledgable, helpful, and accommodating. Historical charm that makes your
stay so much more special than a night in an anonymous chain hotel.
Romance, glamour, and a little bit of stardust. Is it worth it?
Absolutely.
