My husband and I were there in June '04. The staff was very accommodating, the rooms were great. I would definitely stay there again in the future.

We had reserved a king size bed, but when we arrived we were told only queen size was available. The line for check in at the counter took about 30 minutes. The room was temperature was so hot in December that we had to turn off the heating system. After we turned it off the room was freezing, since there was no thermostat to control the room temperature. A man dressed as a hotel employee actually grabbed one of our bags in the loading area and ran away with my laptop computer. There were no security or bellmen available to help us in the loading area. Very poor service, we have been unhappy also with other Hilton Hotels with the poor service and poor check-in. The security told me later that it not unusual for bags to be stolen from the loading area of the hotel during check in or check out procedure. Hold on to your bags tight here or they will be gone.

Generally my stays are good, but I have a had a few negative experiances with service. The elegance and history of the hotel are just so amazing that my few negative experiances haven't scared me away, but I do think the Hiltons should sell the Waldorf to better managed hotel chain. If you are a frequent visitor to New York, you have stay here at least once even at the price- it will probably be a good experiance- but you probably won't need to stay there again. It is perfect for people who like very sophisticated, old world elegance with New York style. If you want a more exciting, hip, trendy hotel, you might want to try somewhere else.

My husband and I booked a suite in June of 04 for our first time in NYC. The hotel was very nice but I would have preferred something in a busier area. The room we had was not that great at all. That was the biggest shocker.

Not what I expected. The bathroom had several lights that were out, the paint was pealing, the internet was broken, overall I was disapointed. Certanly under delivered. And to top things off two perfume bottles were "lost" from my room, called lost and found and it took 4 calls (one to managment) to get someone to call me and tell me they did not have it. Not what I expcted from this New York landmark.

We spent this past New Years weekend here. Be prepared to bring plenty of $$$$. We came as a guest, however I am not sure if this would be my first choice if we return to Manhattan in the future.....$450+ for room service (dinner for 4 adults...a bit pricey but I guess that you are paying for tradition and ambiance.) Service was excellent, rooms old but elegant...lobby beautiful. Walking distance to Broadway, Times Square, 5th Ave , Madison Ave, Etc.
