Disappointing

two stars

The food was nice enough and ample portions but nowhere near as outstanding as the prices would suggest. An ordinary bottle of Chilean Cab.Sauv was 25 euros and the bar drinks extortionate as all mixers were small expensive bottles. One good point; no service charge !! Tables were crowded in even though we had booked well in advance. Live music very good though.

Poor quality food, surly unhelpful waiting staff.

one star

This establishment appeared in all of the guide books and also appeared impressive from the outside. Appearances can be deceiving though! We sat down in the upstairs restaurant and ordered our main courses. What a disappointment. The sausages tasted cheap and were full of water and the vegetables were clearly fresh out of a microwave with one dish much hotter than the other. The food was very average and certainly not worth the money. The waiters (who did not get a tip!) were of the type that believe customers to be an inconvenience that they could well do without. You could have stood up and waved both hands in the air and still not caught their attention. A aging grey haired man seemed to be managing the front of house but as he did not speak, we weren't sure whether he was local or not. We had to share our table with other diners and left to venture outside into the beer garden which was characterless, empty and looking like some scenery from an aging fairground ride. The drink in the Oliver St John Gogarty may be OK but avoid the food. The Temple Bar further down the street was much better with a superb beer garden.

Dreadful Service

one star

I was looking forward to this looking at the other reviews but was deeply disappointed. The food was nice but took ages to come and was expensive. They mucked the starters up and then brought the main meals out as soon as we finished the starters. The staff could barely speak english and were very surly and unhelpful. They also served the mussels in the same pot as they were cooked and I am typing this with bloody great blisters on two of my fingers. Shall not return!!!

long name, great pub

five stars

Names a bit of a mouthfull, but the pub is great, atmosphere is excellent. Despite being very busy,we didnt have any problems getting served, the beer is spot on and the music was good, stays open very late and its ideally positioned for a great Italian.
