Although you have to pay for your parkiing, you redeem yr ticket at the office and get £1 back, the cost of entry I felt was reasonable, and once inside you are transported back in time. On Sundays and Wednesdays the upper floor of the tower, (I beleive this was the duke's quarters) is open to the public with volenteers to answer questions. There are dressing up boxes full of all sorts of things for both children and grown-ups, we thorouly enjoyed ourselves. There is also a walk around the castle and a small NT heritage house by the river, but having a pram we couldn't get access it, next time we will. You are welcome to take picnics but obviously asked to take all your rubbish away with you. My 4 sons and I had a fab day out, not too expensive, educational and really fun.

(Report Problem)Love this castle, it is so interesting and there is a lot of it still intact. Plenty to see, and has various events which are very good.
