Like many people from New York City, I expected Buffalo to be boring, dated, and full of snow - in July. This was not the case at all!! The people here are so incredibly nice, it's sick. Chippewa street is as rocking a place to go at night as any in the U.S. - especially if you like Canadian Beer!! Lake Erie is cool, and there are a lot of interesting buildings to look at here. However, there wasn't a lot in terms of shopping, except the mall; and malls aren't fun - and I generally felt that the city was wasting a lot of what it had to offer. It seemed a lot of the newer entertainment developments were happening across the river in Canada. My friends told me that it was mostly because of New York State and local politics, but whatever it was, it was lacking money. Buffalo, like so many of the run-down Victorian houses throughout its neighborly streets, would be such an outstanding destination if only it had the money to fix itself up a little. The suburbs I visited were very nice, too, and very affordable. If only I could find a job here.
Great for: Beaches, Skiing/Snowboarding, Hiking/Camping, History/Culture, Nightlife, Budget Travel
