Neuer Jungfernstieg 9-14, Hamburg, 20354, Germany…
More and Maps
Situated in the prime locale of the commercial and retail district of Hamburg, this magnificent white building next to Lake Alster is widely regarded as one of Europe's top hotels. The five-star establishment is representative of 19th century, old world European charm and tradition, with its luxurious and well equipped rooms which contain priceless furniture and antique carpets, boasting fantastic views over the lake. The service is attentive, never falling short. Because the hotel is situated close to the city center, all the major attractions and best shopping districts can be reached on foot. Afternoons at the hotel can be spent in the lounge sipping on some tea, while letting the live piano music wash over you.

This was supposed to be one of the most luxurious hotels we had ever stayed at - WRONG. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated like second-class citizens. The snobbery was shameful. Our questions/concerns were ignored - we were ignored while standing at the concierge, eventhough we speak perfect German, having lived and worked in Germany for years. We were placed in a room over the kitchen exhaust and were not 'allowed' to change. Es war schrecklich. The next visit to Hamburg we stayed at the Hyatt and had the most wonderful time.
05 Jun 2005 | A Yahoo! UserThe Vier Jahreszeiten is truly a "best in the world" class hotel. It is listed in the book "1,000 things to do (in the world) before you die" and that is exactly right. This is one of the very few remaining "pre-war jewels of Europe". Its owners have restored every single floor and room (bedroom, restaurant room, etc.) physically to perfection, while, simultaneously, inserting every needed modern convenience (modern bathrooms, internet access, a world class spa, etc.). The staff is also fantastic. Not to be missed: (a) pay the extra for a room w/ the spectacular view over Lake Alster - and if you can pay the slight extra beyond that, the rooms with terraces make that view magical, (b) have lunch, or dinner, in the "Grill", which, again, is a perfect throwback to the quality of food and as importantly service offered pre-war and (c) have a drink in the tiny bar off the lobby, which makes you feel like you are in a 1930s/40s movie. I visit this hotel on business travel, but I would also highly recommend it for Leisure/Romantic getaway. Spectacular.
