I travel alot (infact, so much that I currently don't have a home to speak of) and the bulk of my time is spend staying in a variety of hotels. I can say that the Holiday Inn Parque Fundidora is a very nice place to stay if you are coming to Monterrey. The food in the restaurant is outstanding and suprisingly cheap, the lobby is striking, live music in the evenings and a very curtious staff, although I was a little suprised how difficult it was to find someone who speaks english well enough to answer simple questions. The standard room I experienced was not overly large but was very clean and well kept, a couple of notches above any other Holiday Inn I've ever been in. The water is Potable and all items in the room worked very well. A friend I traveled with had a single room and had nothing but the nicest things to say about his space and it is definitly larger than the standard room I had. The Parque Fundidora steps from the hotel is beautiful. The surrounding area seems to be an industreal area consisting mosly of auto mechanics, tool and dye makers and similar trades so it is rather dirty looking rundown. I was uncomfortable walking in the area and found myself heading back to the hotel within minutes of starting my exploration. The downtown is close and supposed to be much more tourist friendly. The mountians are visible from the hotel (as would be true anywhere in Monterrey) but were obscured by the air pollution to the point where only the tops of the mountians were visible on each of the 5 days I was there. Monterrey wouldn't be my first pick for a Holiday but if your coming anyways, I have no problem recommending this hotel.
