Originally built as a private apartment building in 1929, the Hotel Lombardy is a European-style hotel overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue. Located just four blocks from the White House, it facilitates easy access to the National Mall and the Kennedy Center. The recently renovated building boasts imported Italian and German fabrics, oriental woolen rugs, local art, stainless steel kitchenettes with dining areas (in most rooms), chrome and enamel bathrooms and fine bedding.

Elegance at a good price

Whether you like this hotel will depend in part on what you pay for it. As an older building, much depends on which room you get. Unless you get on eof the front rooms, yours will be fairly dark. But this is compensated for in most cases by the decor, which is appropriate to a $300/night room, yet discounts are available that can bring the rate to half that. The location is ideal for those visiting George Washington University or the World Bank, and is conveniently in between Georgetown and the Mall, with both in walking distance.

Nice location

This hotel is convenient(3 blocks from metro)and within walking distance of the white house. A doorman opens the door for you and an elevator staff person takes you up in the old fashioned elevator. The room was in dire need of updating. It was beyond quaint. Old carpet, bad view from our windows(a building with rooms directly across from ours-kept the shades drawn most of the time),old-plumbing made taking a shower a chore, a walk in closet,a-dressing area next to the bathroom. We ate in the cafe for breakfast one morning, but allow plenty of time.

Horrible Service! Do Not Stay

I had one mishap after the next at the Hotel Lombardy, and they Assistant General Manager Tudor did not seem concerned about resolving the numerous issues \n \nThe issues included extensive delay to bring my car to the front of the hotel (approx. 35 minutes with no one else waiting), pancakes that were rubbery and hard, mail that sat in the outbox for two days, and a half a day charge for wanting to go home. This outdated hotel with an elevator that requires an operator, who does not begin operations before 7 a.m. needs an overhaul. Most of the rooms are on the upper floors, and it takes a great deal of energy to go up the steps. I had an unpleasant experience with this hotel, and the service that they provide.
