A great romantic getaway

4 stars

For Valentines Day my husband and I were greeted with chocolate covered strawberries, and champagne. Which was such a surprise! Then in the evening we were shuttled to the Monarch Bay restaurant which is right on the beach. the wait for the tram was about five minutes, but worth the wait-it was something different and the view along the way "remarkable and enjoyable". The restaurant had to die for food and service. it wasn't at all too uppity- very relaxing. My husband and I had full confidence in the employees here. when we returned to the hotel. We had a package of rose petals sitting on top of our huge Tub. My husband is 6' and we were able to fit in this tub together. the hotel is not directly on the beach so booking an ocean view would not really be the best idea, however the hotel has a private beach so in the summer months this MIGHT be the greatest idea! The spa was also wonderful here- Smiles and service throughout the whole day. We are very Picky people (especially when it comes to the fact this hotel is not cheap or on a budget scale) but St regis lived up to our expectations and more. this will continue to be one of our GREAT weekend getaway locations.

disappointing

3 stars

This is quite an impressive hotel! The big problem for me was that I was paying a healthy amount of money all I was hoping for is high a quality room, great service, and ACCESS TO THE BEACH. I got neither a high quality room because it did not have the anticipated view and was quite small, the service was pathetic (not once, but over and over again!), I felt like the emloyees were the poeple who wanted pampering! Over and over again my requests were treated like a burden. For example, at the pool I asked for water and I was directed to the bar (Help!) or when I called the valet to get my car and they said that they were too busy and I need to come down in person and wait in line (what is going on!). The list goes on and on..........
The other disappointment is it is not on the beach and there is no direct beach access! You need to go through the golf course on a golf cart for about a half mile. This is not so bad except there was only one or two golf cart shuttles going and they dont let you walk so you need to wait and wait and wait..... Forget your dinner reservations unless you plan to leave the beach an extra hour earlier than normal. It was really obsurd! We walked down the street (toward the beach) to the Ritz Carlton and had dinner there. It was really wonderful (and on the beach), I recommend staying there! I know we will next time!
