I saw the review on line written by Bobby from Chandler and found it very upsetting. i have stayed at the Amara on numerous occassions and have always had a wonderful time. The resort is in a perfect location, the staff has always been very friendly and accomodating and generally go out of their way to make my stay enjoyable, and I find the guest rooms lovely, the restaurant exceptional and the views are breathtaking! \n \nThe resort is a more contemporary style and not for everyone, especially if you are looking for southwest flair, however, I travel all over the world and find the Amara's style refreshing and different, not plain and boring and certainly not similiar to a Best Western! \n \nI have not personally dealt with Mr. Davis, however, having dealt with a large majority of the staff and knowing the amount of wedding and convention business they do, I find it difficult to believe that the description of this mans experience is totally accurate! \n \nI would highly recommend the Amara to anyone searching for a classy, stylish resort in uptown Sedona. I would also advise people to check the place out for themselves, not rely on one persons opinion. Thank you!
06 Jun 2005 | A Yahoo! UserPLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE ENTIRE REVIEW. Don't let this happen to you. Let me start by saying DON'T HAVE YOUR WEDDING RECEPTION HERE. Me and my fiance began our search for our wedding reception in Sedona on line. We found an appealing website for the Amara. It had wonderful background music and enticing photo's of the resort. We decided to go see the place. It was way down a curvey hill which could be a problem. The front desk attendances seemed like they were healing a hang over and were unprofessional. We decided to continue on just to give the place a chance. \n \nWe met with Morgan Davis, Catering Director for the Amara. He showed us around the resort. We liked the reception room so we sat down to review our reception options. Mr. Davis was a bit pretentious, as if his pretentiousness would add some air of elite status to the resort, which is really a hotel. If it wasn't for some paintings "for sale" on the walls and a few sculptures I would say I was in the Best Western. I'm not knocking the Best Western, it is what it is but at least it doesn't pretend to be something it's not. \n \nMr. Davis seemed to hear us when we expressed to him our desire for the special occation. We went over the ENTIRE evening in about as much detail as we could. He smiled as he tried to sell us things we didn't want and made an inappropriate remark about how the hotel doesn't allow guest to bring in there own food or alcohol. I tried to politely assure him that it wasn't an issue with our guests. It was wrong to even bring it up as if we or our guests were not good enough to stay at "THE AMARA" . \n \nWe still decided to give the place a chance, mainly because it was in our budget. We figured, what was the harm if we reviewed a contract and see how it goes. We told Mr. Davis that we were looking at a few places. He told us that he would email us the contract. When he got us the contract he OVER CHARGED us approximately $2000.00. Mr. Davis added things we told him we never wanted and charged us for a dance floor that was in the room he showed us and told us, "This is how the room will look for your reception". We went through FOUR revisions before he got it right. When the contract was finally what we initially had told him we wanted, the cost was what it was suppose to be. Mr. Davis made a big deal about how the "AMOUNT WAS REALLY GETTING DOWN THERE". What an inappropriate thing to say. I told him that if getting thousands of dollar of our money wasn't good enough for him then I don't know what to say. Needless to say we decided to take our business elsewhere. Before I had a chance to call Mr. Davis back to inform him of our decision to go with another venue he called me ,again with a pretentious attitude. He said "DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING IN THE MAIL FOR ME." I then told him what we decided. There was a 2 second moment of silence before he muffled something under his breathe then HUNG UP ON ME. WOW, I'm glad we never had our reception at that place.
06 Jun 2005 | A Yahoo! UserThis hotel offers good service and the quality of the room and furnishings were above average. The grounds are beautiful and situated on Oak Creek which is lovely. The food was terrific, but was a bit on the expensive side. The location is great with shops and restaurants within walking distance. Close to great hiking and site seeing.
