If you enjoy both horse racing and art nouveau, the Elmbank Hotel is the perfect place for you, situated as it is, very close to York's famous racecourse. Not only that, it is also within easy walking distance of the city centre shops, the York Minster, and many other tourist attractions. The hotel itself is tastefully decorated and furnished throughout with art nouveau, all flowing lines and natural forms so typical of this period, and so very pleasing to the eye.

This hotel is awful. My son booked a 4 day trip with his partner so we drove them to the hotel. The impression on the internet is of a grand building set back from the road majestic in its surroundings. The reality is a building that smell of damp, is neglected and where the furnishing have come straight from an episode of rising damp. My son wasn't even staying in the hotel itself but in 'The Lodge' opposite. A property that has all the qualities of a 1970's B and B. I'm glad I was with them because they wouldn't have got a full refund otherwise, we then moved them to the Quality Hotel in York. A much much much nicer place to stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avoid at all costs

Stayed here and looked OK from outside but the room smelt musty and we had no hot water. Our friends stayed next door and their door didn't lock securly. Clled to complain about the water and was to by the receotionist "i had a shower earlier and it was fine!" Rude unhelpful staff, smelly, unsecure. Even Basil Faulty would be disgusted.
