I am surprised to be reading all of the negativity some people went through with timeshare salespeople. My husband and I just came back from Puerto Vallarta and were staying at resort near the Mayan Palace. We did get asked to take a tour about their timeshare and were offered $250.00 as well as a massage. My husband and I were only touring b/c of the gifts and to check out the resort incase we wanted to bank our week with RCI and stay there or another Mayan Palace in the future. We wound up being so impressed with Mayan Palace that we decided to purchase at the Grand Mayan. Our salesman Marco was super! He is very knowledgeable and honest. He went out of his way to do wonderful things for us!!!!The next time you are in Puerto Vallarta and ask to be given a tour definately ask for Marco from Chicago!!! WE feel it is a great value and are looking forward to many wonderful vacation with The Mayan Palace!!! \nBeth
05 Jun 2005 | A Yahoo! UserMy partner and I have been to the Mayan Palace in Acapulco twice; (Sep03 & Feb05). Check in was not bad; pretty quick. Check out took a lot longer. Checkout is 10:00 am but not enough staff to handle the load. They have express checkout the night prior from 6–10 pm. It’s even more crowded then and even less staff to assist. \n \nIt is a very beautiful resort. The pool is spectacular. We had a one bedroom suite with a mini kitchen stocked with everything needed to cook. The bedroom has a king bed and TV. There is a living area with two queen sized sofa beds, TV, and table and chairs for dining. The room is not fancy, but we didn't spend much time in the room. \n \nThere was maid service daily. The room was cleaned, bed made, towels replaced, floors mopped. Everyday we left a US dollar bill on the pillow for the maid. Every night, the maid came by to ‘turn down the bed’. She removed the comforter and left two Hershey’s kisses on the pillows. \n \nThe concierge was very helpful. They set up tee times and just about anything you needed they would take care of it. Onto the service at the restaurants and bars. AWFUL! Everyday one of us had a wrong food order. At the main restaurant (Bakal) the food was cooked wrong, someone got the wrong meal, or the meal was missing something. At the pool bar (Balche) the staff also got the orders wrong. Someone got for a hot dog (which came with chili, cheese, bacon and mustard) without chili. When it arrived, it was covered with chili; we had the waitress bring it back. All the cook did was scrape everything off. There was no chili, also no cheese, bacon or mustard. If you asked for extra salsa, you rarely ever got it. You had to ask again. By the time the waitress returned, you were just about done with your food. Very few of staff spoke or understood English very well. It was a challenge. One would think that the staff would be required to speak and understand English since the majority of the guests speak English (whether they were American or not). \n \nNow onto the “presentation”! Upon our arrival and check-in, we were approached and asked if we would like to attend the “free” Sunday brunch… followed by the owners’ presentation. My partner & I immediately said, “NO”. The woman proceeded to tell us that we NEEDED to get an update on the Mayan Palace, the new Grand Mayan, and future Mayan resorts. I asked, “How long is the presentation?” The woman said, “Not long”. Again I asked, “How long is not long?” She said, “90 minutes, but you will get 15% off your restaurant and bar bill if you charge it to your room”. Then I said, “NO, it’s not worth it to me”. I sat through the presentation the first time. At that time they were trying to get me to trade up to the Grand Mayan. Then I was told that the presentation was only 45 minutes. NOT TRUE! Right up front I told them I did not intend to upgrade; I was ONLY there for the 15% off. An hour and a half later I stood up, pointed to my watch and said, “Your time is up! Sign the paper for my 15% off”. By then, the saleswoman had heard NO at least 25 times. She had given up and gotten her supervisor. He too heard NO about 25 more times. They DID NOT want to sign the paper, but I did my part and told them that they had to do their part or I would tell all the guests sitting there that these people were not going to get what they were promised. I got my 15% off and walked away. One thing to remember, once you say no to a sales pitch, the law in Mexico says that they cannot approach you for rest of your stay for another sales pitch. \n \nOverall our stay was great. I would recommend the Mayan Palace Acapulco to anyone. A few suggestions: DO NOT do the presentation unless you’re looking to buy. And if you do, don’t let them pressure you. Buy groceries and cook in a few times. It is expensive at the resort. Don’t use the resort taxis, use the yellow taxis. \n \nENJOY!
05 Jun 2005 | A Yahoo! UserMy husband and I went to a vacation ownership presentation at the Mayan Palace in Mazatlan, Mexico a few weeks ago and were very disappointed with the experience. The facilities were clean, the breakfast was delicious, and the initial salespeople were very nice. Unfortunately, the demeanour of the salespeople changed once we informed them that we would not make any kind of financial decision while on vacation and without doing any research. We asked to have information, in writing, and were assured that they would leave something for us at the desk of our hotel. We were rudely escorted to another area where the Head Manager asked if he could conduct a survey of his staff. We agreed. When I mentioned that I was upset with our treatment at the end of the presentation, he basically stated that we should be happy that we would be receiving gifts and that our treatment was not an issue. "What is the purpose of the survey then?" I asked. I was then told "to get my gifts and leave." Obviously the Mayan Palace is only interested in your opinion if it is what they want to hear. We did receive our gifts, which in my opinion did not make up for the experience, however we never did receive any information from the hotel regarding the financial discussions. \n \nI found it interesting that the Mayan Palance does not provide brochures, does not have paper with company letterhead on it, and provides nothing in writing if you are not buying at the time of the presentation. What are they trying to hide?
