Hotel Arctic: Overview

You won't believe your eyes!

There is NOTHING to dislike about The Hotel Arctic, Ilulissat or the people there. On arrival at Ilulissat Airport, I was met by a representative of The Hotel Arctic who drove me back to the hotel for check in. The Hotel Arctic (also housing a conference centre and an excellent restaurant and bistro) has the most breathtaking views of the ice flows over Disko Bay. To the rear of the hotel, there is a wooden walkway leading down to their five metal igloos, picnic tables and spectacular uninterrupted views over the bay towards Disko Island that is visible on the horizon. This is the sort of place you can sit for hours, doing nothing, but never getting bored. The air quality, the view, the tranquillity is something that will stay with you forever. Although the hotel is a little walk from the town itself, Hotel Arctic do have a free shuttle-minibus service to and from the town for guests. Trips on fishing boats amongst the iceflows and dog sledding can all be booked in the hotel and there are many Tourist Information facilities, guided walks, art centres and museums in the town. Hotel Arctic also will check you in for your flight up to midnight of the day before your flight and take you and your luggage back to the airport! Greenland is quite expensive...perhaps a little more expensive than somewhere like London or New York... but it is worth every penny and I would recommend it without any hesitation. This place was like paradise and the locals were hospitable. English is not generally spoken other than by the Danish inhabitants but the Greenlanders still made every effort to make you welcome and to communicate with you and their pride in their beautiful country was obvious and justified. JUST GO... YOU WILL LOVE IT!
