Located on Calle Cristo in historic Old San Juan, this former 17th-Century Carmelite Convent sits across from the Cathedral. Over the years, the El Convento has become a traditional respite for cruise passengers. Tourists and locals frequent its outdoor Patio restaurant. Renovated in 1982, the ambience is distinctly Old World, but updated with AC and well-equipped guestrooms.

Many problems with this hotel

At @$270 per night, there was no hot water and the inside portion of the door lock fell off so one person had to stay in the room to let the other one back in. The hotel refused to give us a discount saying that as we booked through Travelocity the hotel was not responsible for their poor maintenance. No hot water and no door lock in San Juan is a major problem and one which caused us great inconvenience.

This is the life!!

We have tried to book a room in Feb but it is full again! We went to the Sunday buffet which is fit for a King and Queen!! \nThe food quality is exceptional and the service outstanding, as well as the strolling quartet with those lyrical tunes of the culture as well as pops. You must go there after Mass for an elegant afternoon.

If you are wanting to stay in Old San Juan, this hotel is perfect. Everything about this hotel is excellent. It was a wonderful visit and the hotel was the best part. The staff went out of their way to see to our needs.The room was beautiful and very clean, and a great location in Old San Juan. Oct. 2004
