It seems that this property has forgotten that it is a hotel. It is very spread out and hard to get around. There are 3 room towers, and you have to either walk, take a tram, or take a boat to get anywhere. The boats cannot take luggage, and the trams seem to break down frequently - we gave up by the second day. The towers each seem to have only one elevator so if your room is far away you have quite a walk to get to/from the elevators. Signage was very poor, and finding things like ice machines was difficult. \n \nWe travelled with 2 children (ages 7 and 4). This place was NOT child friendly. Even our kids noted that the hotel has "too many rules", such as: \n-requiring cover-ups/shoes when going to/from pools \n-$35 charge for any pool towel not returned the same day. Pools were open until 11 but towel return closed at 8. \n-Lagoon beach unuseable after 5. You could swim, but not sit on the beach chairs. \n \nThere were additional fees for many things, such as $6/day for a refrigerator and $40/day for a rollaway bed. Food at the hotel was VERY EXPENSIVE (even for Hawaii) and not all that great. Our room change request was also a very frustrating process but the new room did make the stay more livable.
05 Jun 2005 | A Yahoo! UserThe Hilton Waikoloa Hotel is the best hotel I've ever stayed at, personally. The grounds are so expansive that it is comparable to Disneyland. To get from one place to another, you either have to take a tram/train-like vehicle that transports you between all three towers (Ocean, Lagoon, and Palace towers), or cute little boats that travel on canals that go to all the towers, too. It gets a little frustrating and tiring to get from one point to another, even to get from your hotel room to the elevator! However, there is so much to do there that you and your family will NEVER get bored! The Dolphin Quest program is pricey, and you do not actually get to SWIM with dolphins, you can pretty much throw them fish just like you do at Sea World. There is a lagoon that has WONDERFUL snorkeling, with pufferfish, green sea turtles, and lots of tropical fish. It is great for the whole family. The pools and waterslides, of course, are probably the main attractions for children, and can keep them preoccupies for hours a day. Overall, this hotel is absolutely amazing.
05 Jun 2005 | A Yahoo! UserTHIS HOTEL IS AMAZING. GREAT FOR FAMILIES, NEWLY WEDS, SINGLES. ITS SO LARGE THAT YOU RARELY SEE THE SAME THING TWICE. WE WENT FOR OUR HONEYMOON THEN AGAIN FOR OUR 5TH ANNIVERSARY. THE POOLS ARE WONDERFUL, EXPANSIVE AND GREAT FOR THAT GETAWAY. THE WATERSLIDES ARE QUITE FUN TOO, YES EVEN ADULTS ENJOY THEM. THE ONLY THING I DIDNT LIKE, AND IT IS QUITE TRIVIAL, IS THE HOT TUB OFF OF THE POOL AT THE LAGOON TOWER, YOU HAD TO GET INTO THE COLD POOL WATER TO GET INTO THE HOT TUB, AND THEN BACK INTO THE COLD POOL WATER TO GET OUT, CAN BE QUITE A SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM. FOR NEWLYWEDS I SUGGEST STAYING IN THE OCEAN TOWER, SINGLES STAY IN THE PALACE TOWER AND FAMILIES STAY IN THE LAGOON TOWER, AS THAT IS WHERE ALL THE POOLS THAT ARE THE BIGGEST, THE BEST WATERSLIDES AND THE POPULAR ROPE BRIDGE OVER THE LAGOON POOL TO THE OCEAN WALK. ENJOY YOUR STAY!!! ITS WELL WORTH THE HALF HOUR DRIVE NORTH OF THE AIRPORT TO STAY THERE.
