This 28-story hotel on the Chao Phraya is more oriented to tour groups but it also has numerous facilities for business travelers. All of the rooms face the river but the standard rooms are not very spacious. The decor of the lobby is pleasant and tastefully decorated with the flowers that give the hotel its name. Because it is competing with so many top hotels on the riverside, it is sometimes not mentioned with the elite but it is still very good and its food and beverage outlets are excellent.

nice hotel - great for business travelers

This is a great hotel for business travellers. It has all the amenities. Rooms are fairly big, especially by Asian standards. It is near the river, so easy access for the water taxis.

Nice hotel, but very American

The Sheraton Royal Orchid provides spacious, modern rooms and all the comforts a Westerner can expect in Bangkok, but be prepared to rub shoulders with lots of large American tour groups. The riverside location yields gorgeous views and the convenience of a water taxi stop. Adjacent to major shopping, and the in-house Thai restaurant is outstanding. If you're brave, sample some snacks from the street vendors who line the road between the hotel and shopping mall next door. And be advised, this is Bangkok, not Singapore! Don't be surprised that the water in the bathrooms isn't potable (the hotel supplies plenty of iced, purified water for drinking) and reveals a grimy gray color when it accumulates in the tub while you shower. Bottom line, a nice, comfortable place to stay, although somewhat lacking in local color.
