full of character hotel, an arab palace, what can I say?...spring the best time of the year to enjoy it!
27 May 2006 | A Yahoo! UserOn the plus side is the location, up away from the bustle of the city, close to the Alhambra Palace and gardens and with a wonderful view (provided you get a room at the front, overlooking the city). On the down side--- where to begin? Anything positive you may read about this place will have been written by or on behalf of the hotel itself. Fanciful claims that this is a luxurious hotel, one of the best in Europe etc etc -- DO NOT BELIEVE IT!! . OK, the entrance is grand, but beyond that, the place is a real disappointment. The bedrooms are pokey, the bathrooms are utilitarian, the decor is tired and shabby, the service is essentially "take it or leave it" and the food is bad (where else have you found an egg floating in the fruit juice dispenser at breakfast???). This place represents appalling value for money. If you're easily impressed and happy to waste your money--go ahead, book. Likewise , if your idea of heaven is fighting your way through hordes of shouting Spanish wedding guests who pack the place every weekend . Ditto if you like eating your overpriced, gruesome breakfast (luke warm meatballs, stale croissant, processed ham, powdered fruit juice--I kid you not!!) in a stuffy dining room in the company of geriatrics(amazingly, breakfast out on the terrace is strictly prohibited!!!). Otherwise, stay away!!!
02 May 2006 | A Yahoo! UserThis hotel has class, style and is simply wonderful! We can't understand the guy who said the rooms were more motel than hotel. We booked the junior suite for two adults and two kids and were absolutely delighted. The furniture, view, service and general atmosphere were more than wonderful. Drinks on the balcony of the bar overlooking the city were memorable. The staff were helpful but never "pushy", and even helped us to find a parcel service to ship a mirror back to Germany! The place isn't exactly cheap ( we paid around 360 Euros for the suite for one night, we are normal, average "Joe Bloggs" type of people and yes, we had to save for it!), but drinks etc. were a normal price. If you're going to visit the Alhambra, the hotel is in a perfect location, just down the road. There's a bus into town which takes about 5 mins. Take our advice and treat yourselves to one night at this place. It's an experience you'll never forget!
