801 Ponce de Leon Ave, San Juan, 00907, Puerto Rico…
More and Maps
This excellent, moderately priced hotel is in the middle of the centric Miramar district. The hotel offers varied in-room entertainment options and gladly arranges transportation to most of the in-city attractions such as beaches and tourist areas like Old San Juan. The property has 12 floors and was established in 1969. The staff is well-trained, very cordial and will make your visit one to remember.

Before my husband and I left for Puerto Rico I read all of the reviews for this hotel, needless to say, I was really nervous. People were saying Ghetto and that it was super unclean. But, we had a really good experience here. It wasn't like the Hilton or anything. And it for sure doesn't look like the pictures that they show to represent the hotel. (A bit misleading if you ask me) But the room was clean and the service was great. The hotel is NOT in the Ghetto, trust me we got lost in the Ghetto. Puerto Rico is super awesome, the pina colodas are awesome, Viego San Juan is awesome and Hotel Excelsior was what we expected and probably more. If you can handle not being in a five star hotel you'll do fine. Just remember that construction is going on and the pool is not a pool (maybe a bath tub). Its close to the ocean, the rainforest and tons of super cool beaches that are not over crowded and good shopping in Viejo San Juan. Just remember to pack lots of sunscreen and cool clothes when we were there it was in the 90s everyday.
06 Jun 2005 | A Yahoo! UserMy husband and I generally find that most inexpensive places don't have a lot of the perks more expensive hotels have but we can enjoy our stay regardless. All we really wanted was a place to lay our heads when we were not at the beach so although the reviews on the site were not favorable, we decided to give this place a chance. \nThe area was familiar to us and we thought this was a business-class hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel (and the entire Condado area) is deeply under construction and the guests suffer. The hotel was really in a poor state. Luckily, the staff was great and we were determined to enjoy ourselves. \nOur advice: Don't stay here until they have completely redone the place (looks like they need about five years).
