Pleasant stay

We checked in quickly and the room was very nice. The hotel is beautiful and right in the middle of downtown Austin. Convenient to 6th Street and the Capitol.

great place to stay for South by Southwest (SXSW) conference

I stayed at the Omni in downtown Austin for the South By Southwest (SXSW) conference in March 2002. The Omni is the perfect place to stay for South by Southwest. You can easily walk to all the events, as well as the nearby jazz bars and night clubs. The hotel's bar is a good place to grab a cocktail before heading out for the night.

The lobby is interesting -- it's all glass windows where you can look up and see into the rooms if people's curtains are open. My room overlooked the lobby, and it was great because I could open my curtains and look down and see if my friends were waiting for me at the bar!

Also, I appreciate any hotel that gives its guests nice thick white terry robes.

nice hotel, good location

This is a great hotel if you want to stay in the heart of downtown Austin. If you are there on business, one half of the hotel is for business travelers and the other half is for everyone else (so things are quiet on the bus. end). The capital is right around the corner and there is a church across the street. Last time I was there Metallica was staying also .. need a better reference?
