Right next door to the much hyped Delano Hotel, the National is pretty fabulous in its own right. Built in 1940 as a luxury art deco hotel, it was completely renovated in the 1990s, even winning an Art Deco preservation award. The National also has one of the best swimming pools in Miami. It has an impressive lobby and elegantly appointed rooms with all the usual luxury hotel amenities, including mini-bars, chocolates on the pillow and movie rentals.

Solid Bet

Great location, nice people and DVD player etc are in rooms which is a nice touch. We love to get out and run and swim so the long pool was great for the swim part. It rained one day, so we had to use the onsite gym which was mediocre. But the good thing is that you can pay and use the Delano's gym next door which has a lot more. \n \nThe only reason we knew this is cause our travel book, The Athletic-Minded Traveler, told us. It was a bit expensive to do this, but for just one rainy day it was fine.

Get cotton sheets...

Beautiful hotel and grounds, courteous staff. Management gave a bottle of champagne to us as we were there to get married. Individual A/C and heat controls worked well. Room was large and well appointed. Afternoon high tea in the library was very good. \n \nWhat makes this hotel a 4 instead of a 5 is this: \n- sheets were 50/50 cotton/polyester and the pillows were hard, surprising in such a nice hotel (check out a Westin for a great bed...) \n- maids left the champage tray outside our door for a day \n- Entree at restaurant was presented well but steak was tough and the cake we ordered wasn't good. Service was excellent. \n- Poolside restaurant service was fabulous one day and then slow the next. The food we had there was good. \n \nWe will stay there again but some small improvements would make this a 5 star hotel.
